They'll try to get Chad to take a cut be he already said he wouldn't. So that's a major problem. But say goodbye to Mawae. If Curtis doesn't take a cut they should let him go (I know but its a business). Any aging mediocre player has to either take a pay cut or go. They should franchise Abraham again and if they can clear enough space out - sign him long term next year. The guy is too good for them to let go. He still has another 4 or 5 years in him. Right now - this is a mess. How quickly things change - They went from being Super Bowl contenders to an over aged disaster. I hope Tannebaum learns from Isiah. Jet fans will take a losing year or 2 as long as they're headed in the right direction.

If they trade Abraham they're going into a TOTAL re-building mode - no ifs and or buts..and not playing it halfway. IF thats the case they should trade Curtis Martin to Parcells in Dallas. For anything. Just to free up the cap space. I'd even take a chance on Julius Jones. When he's healthy, he sure can run. Parcells loves Martin and loves to sign his ex-players...Keyshawn, Bledsoe...WHen he was with the Jets & NE he signed guys like Dave Meggett and Keith Byers. And Parcells want to win NOW. He's almost 65 and will probably only coach 2 years tops!

Well, here's a roundup of the latest Jets cap news: JOHN ABRAHAM New York Daily News: "Abraham, confused by the direction of the organization and upset that it seemingly doesn't consider him part of the long-term plan, has told friends that he wants to play elsewhere. 'He wants to get the hell out of New York,' a person close to Abraham said yesterday." CHAD PENNINGTON Newsday: "The Jets and agents for Chad Pennington have begun discussions aimed at dramatically reducing the injured quarterback's salary-cap figure for 2006, a person with knowledge of the situation confirmed yesterday." CURTIS MARTIN New York Post: "The first, and most significant, moves they've made include opening talks with Chad Pennington, Curtis Martin and John Abraham about new contracts, according to a source familiar with the Jets' thinking." TY LAW Newark Star-Ledger: "Pro Bowl cornerback Ty Law's brief career with the Jets is over, according to his agent... The Chiefs, Jaguars and perhaps Patriots are among the teams that may pursue him." Credit to Pro Sports Daily for posting these headlines URL: http://www.prosportsdaily.com/nfl/jets/rumors.html

Since it seems that the Cardinals are willing to burn money after giving Kurt Warner 18 million bucks, maybe the Jets can trade them Curtis Martin and get big time cap relief. The Cardinals haven't had a decent RB since Terry Metcalf....It probably won't happen, but if you don't ask - you don't get.

Jets wouldn't get major cap relief by trading C-Mart. Depending on how is contract is situated, it could hurt them more than help. By trading a player, you take on whatever his bonus is right away. I suspect his bonus is rather large at this stage.

As expected, Abraham got the franchise tag. Plus, Newsday seems to have named some more names: "The team will begin casting off high-priced veterans, particularly on offense, later this week, starting with tackle Jason Fabini and fullback Jerald Sowell. Guard Pete Kendall also is expected to be released in a massive salary-cap purge, but the most surprising victim could be six-time Pro Bowl center Kevin Mawae." Cutting 3 offensive linemen and your fullback? Ouch. Sure hope Martin retires, cause I'd hate to see him wind up running behind the patchwork line the Jets are gonna have!

Have to say the Jets have gone directly as planned. At least CMart agreed to restructure his massive cap #. Remember, all this (well, at least everyone but Law) is done b/c Pennington refused the massive pay cut. Now I don't think there's a doubt that the Jets will be targeting D'Brickashaw Ferguson in two months.
