Curtis Martin Coming Back?

With all the hubbub over the Bettis retirement, I haven't heard much about Curtis Martin lately. He is planning to return in 2006, right? I know he was injured late last season, but he's still one of the better backs in the AFC, even if he is getting up there is years. If he does come back, how much longer do you think he'll play, and where on the all-time rushing list do you figure he'll wind up at the end of his career?

According to Martin, he's healthy now. He'll have to take a pay cut to stay with the Jets (I believe he's owed about $8 Million this year). He's been quoted as saying if the Jets do bring in a new young runningback, they'd have to outplay him to take his job away. Exactly the attitude you want from a vet.

I think he has a good two years left in him. With that said, I believe he can retire as the 2nd best rusher in NFL history. He only needs 1,168 yards to tie Barry Sanders for 3rd. He needs 2,625 yards to reach Walter Payton. He can do it.

The question is, how high would you draft him in a fantasy football draft?

Re: Curtis Martin Coming Back?

Obviously there are a good number of other backs available. It's tough but I wouldn't use a 4th round pick on him. It's all about how your particular draft rolls about.

If he gets behind that Denver offensive line, I'd take him very high.
