Curtis Martin Hall Of Fame Bound

this thread isnt really to question whether or not he will be in the HOF, as i defy anyone here to create an arguement to keep him out, it is to determine if Martin is without a doubt 1st ballot or not

the only knock i can see against him is his playoff exposure, which due to being on the Jets for most of his career is understandable

he had 10 straight seaons with over 1000 yards rushing

he has over 14,000 yards rushing now and wants to continue playing

i would say whether he gets to play again or not he is 1st ballot all the way

can anyone see any reason to disagree ?

i don't think he will go in 1st ballot...2nd or 3rd season lock...but first ballot belongs to the All-time greats...and I have never heard Martin's name in the same breath as Sanders, Brown, Emmitt, Payton...etc...

Still totally awesome back...

Re: Curtis Martin Hall Of Fame Bound

Martin 14101 yards.... 4.0 yards per carry....... 3329 receiving yards...... 6.9 yards per catch..... 100 TDs........ 11 years playing

Sanders 15269 yards...... 5.0 yards per carry...... 2921 receiving yards..... 8.3 yards per catch......109 TDs........10 years playing

ok, the slight edge does go to Sanders, but is it really that much of a gap that Sanders is 1st ballot and Martin is not ?

what could Martin do to become 1st ballot ?

how about if he stuck around a couple more years and broke 16,000 rushing yards ?

I think if he got 16K he would be first ballot...he is cursed with being ultra steady but not flashy...and he ran at a time when the spotlight was on other runners...had he stayed in New England for those three titles...then yeah...first ballot.

Re: Curtis Martin Hall Of Fame Bound

A whole yard per carry is not a slight edge, it is a huge edge. Martin is a Hall of Famer, but not an all-time back by any means.
