Sillinger out for the year Quote:
New York Islanders center Mike Sillinger will undergo season-ending hip surgery, the team announced Saturday.
The procedure will be performed within the next week in Vail, Colorado by the same surgeon who operated on Islanders goaltender Rick DiPietro’s hip last May.
Playing for his NHL-record 12th team, Sillinger had 14 goals and 12 assists in 52 games. Despite missing the last nine games, he shares the team lead with two shorthanded tallies.
Sillinger joins speedy center Shawn Bates, who underwent season-ending hip surgery in December, and defenseman Chris Campoli, who will miss the remainder of the season following shoulder surgery. In addition, defenseman Brendan Witt could miss another month due to a sprained knee ligament and defenseman Andy Sutton is sidelined at least a month with a partially torn hamstring. The Islanders, who are one point behind three teams for the final Eastern Conference playoff berth, welcomed back defenseman Bruno Gervais after he missed four games with a sprained oblique muscle.

If we make the playoffs, Ted Nolan should win Coach of the Year, unanimously. |
