Rather than describing himself as a "buyer" or a "seller" approaching Tuesday's NHL trade deadline, Islanders general manager Garth Snow described himself as a "builder." Snow demonstrated his commitment to that theme Friday by reaching agreement on a five-year contract extension worth $10 million to cement power forward Trent Hunter in place as one of the Isles' core players................Hunter, in his fourth full season with the Islanders, has seen his scoring decline somewhat since 2003-04, when he was a finalist for the Calder Trophy as rookie of the year after scoring a career-high 25 goals and 51 points.

I don't get this. 5 years and 2 million per year for a guy who has 8 goals? Sure, he's a pretty good defensive player but still......How about signing a guy who can put the puck in the net?

This is an awful signing and a bad sign because any GM who understood his job would know Hunter did not deserve this type of deal. How do you justify that many years or $$ when Hunter is known to be afraid to drive to the net and, because of his penchant for shooting from the outside, has one of the worst shot percentages in the NHL. His hits are many, but not exactly the kind that strike fear into opposing players. I do not understand this deal.
