Cool Blake and Islanders parting ways?

According to Newsday, unless the Islanders and Jason Blake can glose a huge gap in contract negotiations, Blake will be wearing another jersey come the fall.

The Islanders have offered 3 years, 9 million. Blake stands firm at his 5 year, 18 million asking price.

I would hate to see Blake leave. But you can't blame the Islanders. He's 34 years old and relies on his speed. 5 years is too much for a team that's already, losing money every year.

Re: Blake and Islanders parting ways?

That's a bit of a difference between the two - so if Blake goes, does that seem more like Smyth will stay in NY?

Re: Blake and Islanders parting ways?

Can someone paste that link in here...I cant find it anywhere online and live in San Jose. Thanks! If Blake is holding out for 5 yrs then he will be an Islander because no team will offer a 34 year old whose game depends on speed to a 5 yr contract. By 37 Blake will be half the player he is now.

I really don't think it has any bearing on Smyth. The red carpet has been thrown out to Smyth if he wants to stay. $, captaincy...It's whether he and his family want to stay in LI for 5 years or go back to Edmonton....

As far as where the Article is Isles 2279...It was in the Briefs Section in Newsday - not in Greg Logan's coverage. the Brief section are stories taht are taken off the wire.

But I can't seem to find it anywhere on line. I copied it and attached it

That's kind of you.

Newsday Online should have it in their archive, though.

Jason Blake is a decent player, one of my favorite, but I don't see him as an Islander in the future.

Why do you say that?

He takes way too many shots, and the Islanders want to cut the edges whereever they can. Charles B. Wang is in legal trouble!!!

Too many shots? He had 40 goals last year. He played on a line with Randy Robataille and Aaron Asham. Who's supposed to take those shots?

I'd hardly call this legal trouble. Wang is expected to be cleared of this matter, and even if he isn't, its a very small ordeal.

Blake may be a bit selfish on the ice, but his 40 goals seem to indicate that he can't take enough shots. The Islanders are not in salary cap trouble either, so youre "cut the edges" comment doesn't make sense.

Charles B. Wang, whom I am meeting later this month, happens to care more about the financial success of the Islanders. It is expected that there is an increase in attendance, or they'll be moving out of the Collisuem.

I am a fan of Blake, but when you look at the game-to-game statistics he averages about six shots a game. Jagr takes about that many shots, primarily because he is the leader of the Rangers. You have to put the whole picture together.

Cares more about the financial success than who?? When making a comparison, please include who or what you are comparing TO.
So youre saying that only the "leader" of a team should take that many shots per game? Better chastise Heatley and Spezza, Malkin, Cheechoo....none of them are the leaders of their teams, yet all took more shots than the "C"s on theirs.

Marc, you know I love you (in a plutonic way of course), but your theories on Blake and the Islanders never seem to make any sense.

Also, they are going nowhere. That's why wang bought the team - to keep it on the Island.
