This is a response from Giants head coach Tom Coughlin when asked about back-up running back Brandon Jacobs improvement on picking up the blitz:
"That’s what he’s been able to accomplish in the off-season and in the preseason here, is the recognition part of this thing and being involved in the right protection scheme. Of course, when he does do that, he’s a big, strong guy who gives you that added protection."
This is a great sign from a standpoint of helping out the entire offense. Last season the mistake made was whenever Jacobs was in the game, opposing teams knew he, 9 times out of 10, would run the ball. Now that he's improved his blocking, he should be one nasty asset to the offense. A guy his size with the knowledge to help protect the QB, a good tool indeed.
