TheSportsGuru 2006 NFL Preview - New York Giants

Chicago (W)

New Orleans (W)
@Washington (L)

How long does it take a predominately verteran football team to grow tired of the antics of a military-style head coach? Apparently about 2 years, because as Tom Coughlin heads into season three in New York the Giants appear to be right at that point. It started after the playoff loss at home to Carolina. Tiki Barber, a veteran teamleader, insinuated that the Giants had been “outcoached”, among other things, which caught Coughlin off-guard. He was visibly shaken when asked about it, and talked to Tiki to clear the air. Right now everyone is saying the right things, but how long is it going to take the Giants’ players to totally tune Coughlin out? We may find out this season.

As much as I'd like to believe that this team is way better than an 8-8 club, its hard to argue with most of the games you have pencilled in as losses. The only one that looks like a win for the Giants, to me, is Tennessee. I can definitely see them splitting their divisional games or, in the case of Dallas (after watching how fluid that team's offense was last night), dropping both. So it looks like the Giants will need a little luck and some big performances in big games to get to that magical 10 win mark.

Re: TheSportsGuru 2006 NFL Preview - New York Giants

Teams like the Giants or the Redskins always seem to lose a game that they should win. They just aren't good enough, and the NFL is so even, for them to win every game they are supposed to.

Eli Manning needs to prove to me that he can be a leader and Tom Coughlin is beginning to wear thin on the veteran leadership.

I have to disagree with your projecting on W/L for the Giants. You have them going undefeated at home while not picking up a win on the road in 2006. The Giants are better than they were last year so I don't project any drastic cases like you have.

As far as chemistry goes, I think you're blowing it out of proportion. Of course if they go 0-5, things won't be rosey and nobody expects them to. However, Eli Manning is not on the outs with Plaxico and/or Shockey. And anyway, the team will go as far as the defense is able to take them. The offense will score points, it's just a matter of stopping other teams from scoring more

You are probably right. I looked at every team individually and told myself not to make changes after looking at a team.

The overall record is what I am focusing on, and I think the Giants are no better than an 8-8 team. Like you said, a few losses and we'll see how well this team blends together....

I had my beloved Giants for 8-8 but ironically I chose most of the wins against the teams Guru's got down for losses! Not too far away whatever the case and all the speculation will be over.

8-8 sounds about right.....but i think i would flop wins with Indy and Chicago for wins with Tennesee and Atlanta
