Cool Burress not thrilled with couglin

From today's Newsday: Plaxico Burress had this to say about Tom Coughlin:

"I kind of think one of the problems we have around here is some of the coaches don't take the time to develop relationships with the players,"
"That kind of throws us off because we don't know where they're coming from and they don't understand us. So when things go wrong, when you don't do what you intend to as a player and they jump on you, it causes the guys to second-guess themselves and doubt themselves.

"When you have a good relationship with your boss, when players have good relationships with the coaches, you want to give back more to them. It's a respect factor when you have a good relationship with somebody. You don't want to let them down."

Burress was quick to add that he does have that with wide-receivers coach Mike Sullivan.

Is this any big deal?

Burress seems to talk only about relationships, perhaps he should be on Dr. Phil.

But Coughlin has made strides this year. However I dont see him being buddy buddy with anyone. All Burress has to do is catch passes and not sulk.

Re: Burress not thrilled with couglin

i always thought coughlin was the right man for the job, and Plex was the wrong signing, but im starting to think plex is still the wrong signing but so was coughlin, it makes more sense to me why coughlin had a hard time finding a job between his stops in jax and ny. If this season goes to crap can you see him getting fired before the end of the season?

There's no way and no reason to fire Coughlin. He was the perfect guy for the job when he was hired and he's done a fine job. He instilled toughness in the roster and has preached fundamental prowess. He helped change Tiki's career around after his fumble problems (which dissapeared). Just because Plaxico wants a fun atmosphere, doesn't mean Coughlin should be fired.

i never would of thought that till i heard an ill word come out of tikis mouth about the coaching staff after the panther game. Ive heard comments here and there threw the media from players more at the begining but periodically they still come out. I just almost see this team falling apart if they dont get off to a good start in their first 3 games

Coughlin is one tough cookie. But if that is what it takes to win some games, they should keep the strict coach on the job. I have never heard anything about him being a nice guy, but everyone has their personalities and that is what makes them unique.

ya but i think this is the difference between coughlin and a guy like the tuna. Tuna seems to care about his players and demand respect, coughlin just wants it his way and doest seem to care about the players

After that horrible loss, everyone accepted blame. The coaches accepted it, the players, it was a poor display by everyone.

As with any team, if they lose, people will start to complain. If they win, everything will be fine.

Coughlin isn't the same guy he was in Jacksonville. He's realized the NFL today is different and has changed his ways a bit without completely changing his philosophy.
