Who Will Be Barber's Successor?

Tiki Barber the greatest runningback in NY Giants history has announced that he intends to play 1 or 2 more years. When his magnificent career ends who will replace him? Will Brandon Jacobs stop running standing straight up making it effortless to tackle him? Apparently hes been getting a lot of advice about that from another legendary back who is built like Jacobs by the name of Eddie George. Will Jacobs learn from George and become like him? He certainly has the tools thats for sure. Or will the Giants draft someone or possibly sign a big name runningback thats available when Tiki calls it a career. My vote goes to drafting a runningback but really giving Jacobs a chance to see if the Giants already have Tikis successor.

Re: Who Will Be Barber's Successor?

This is probably the most important situation in the Giants future now that Eli Manning is stable at QB. Tiki will be going into TV for a career once he ends his football playing days and he's made it well known.

Jacobs has the physical tools but it remains to be seen if he can handle a bigger workload during the year. Hopefully, he gets the ball some more than last year (even though Tiki is one of the best). However, you never know. There are usually some great RBs in the draft.

Remember that this will be GM, Ernie Accorsi's final year. Who knows what the next GM will have in mind.

Who will replace Barber? I don't think he's on the roster yet. Knowing that Tiki is playing this year and probably next, I fully expect them to take a RB in the first round in next year's draft, to either start right away if Tiki does retire after 2006 or to step in for the 2008 season. Adrian Peterson, maybe?

Yeah this makes a lot of sense. I dont think Jacobs will get the chance to prove himself simply because Tiki is so great that its hard to take him off the field. I see a draft pick and a runningback by committee coming unless that pick is really a sure thing like Reggie Bush is supposed to be.
