According to one source who is familiar with three teams' own mock draft's, the New York Giants are targeting Miami (Florida) safety Kenny Phillips with the 31st overall pick on Saturday.
The NY Post says it's possible the Giants will go after the junior safety after losing Gibril Wilson to the Raiders in free agency. They also believe it's possible the Giants could look to add a safety in the second round.
Right now, the starting Giants safeties will likely be veteran Sammy Knight (signed as a free-agent) and James Butler. If Phillips is drafted, he could be used in nickel packages and learn in his rookie year or compete for a starting job in camp.
I certainly wouldn't mind Phillips. Usually those Miami safeties are pretty good.
