Saints Still Interested in Jeremy Shockey

Reports say that the New Orleans Saints made a trade offer to the Giants of a 2nd round draft pick plus safety Roman Harper for Jeremy Shockey last week, but the Giants declined.

Some sources say the Saints are still interested and talks could likely continue through the draft.

I'm torn. If they can get a 1st round pick for Shockey (I doubt it), perhaps it would be worth listening too, but he's so damn good. But he is injury proned, apparently. Who knows, I'm glad I'm not the GM.

Shockey to the Saints makes perfect sense, the Giants have Kevin Boss at TE, and the Saints need a Tight End bad, Eric Johnson didn't work out for them.

What if it's a 2 and a 3 or something close, Empire? Would you pull the trigger on that?

the
Giants should take the deal .... Boss is a good TE and an extra pick can be big

Re: Saints Still Interested in Jeremy Shockey

It would take a massive package for me to want to give Shockey away. I have no clue how he is behind closed doors (ie. if his teammates don't like him, etc.) but he brings a lot to the table.

I'm far from sold on Boss as a blocker and whether he can deal with being THE guy for 16 games.

I am with you on this...love him or hate him...he is worth more in trade value right now.

I'm with Simon. I trust Boss to be the guy for 16 games. I think he has great potential and with a good package for the oft injured Shockey I would like the Giants to trade him for some picks to strengthen up their secondary. Make some cap room and not have a guy yelling at Eli to throw the ball to him only to drop it when he does.

I wouldn't give Sockey up for that either. My first reaction was "Take it now" because he has a reputation for being injury prone, but he has only missed 4 games in 3 years for a physical position like his. Keep him and see if you can get the Saints to bite on Boss.

the giants need jeremy shockey. they wont win purely on chemistry next year. they need talent and shockeys about the most talented tight end in the league

True Shockey has loads of talent but he's injury prone and is a constant thorn in the side of his team. I'm so sick of recievers yelling at their quarterbacks to throw them the ball (Hello Chad and TO!) because all it does it make the QB force the ball to them and forcing the ball to anyone usually results in interceptions. I'd rather go with Boss who is more of a team guy and hey, when you have chemistry it's something to preserve not mess with!

Re: Saints Still Interested in Jeremy Shockey

reese is not going to trade shockey. The giants love the power I which calls for two te's, plus boss hasnt played a full year why trade shockey till u know boss is legit, if time passes us by on trading shockey and we have to eat the contract so be it. but dont make foolish trades, and there not going to trade there first, they have the 10th pick or something like that. Also before u read what the media says about the giants, they said the giants were not a team after two weeks last year and that eli would be out all four weeks.

the giants were 28 mil under the cap at the start of the year and they signed like one guy, plus they get a 5th for shianco, and prob a 3rd or 4th depending on how wilson does for the raiders this year

Re: Saints Still Interested in Jeremy Shockey

Yeah but like Gotham said in a few posts above, Shockey's trade value is high right now. I'm certainly not doubting Shockey's talent but it just seems that he doesn't fit in this offense much like Jonathan Vilma is a great player but useless in the 3-4. The offense that made them Super Bowl Champs by the way. I'd rather trade him now and just sign some blocking tight end for the power running formations and use those picks for a free safety, a cornerback and possibly an offensive lineman.

the giants have 8 returning players from the draft. To assume Reese is going to nail the draft again is silly. id rather have a known evil in this situation then an unknown evil. The giants have 7 picks this year thats more then enough. We don't need anymore

if he doesn't fit in a power I offense what does he fit in? HE is a great run blocking TE, and a great wide out wen needed. You people are stroking Boss off like he had an Adrian Peterson rookie year. HE played a few games and no teams game planned for him. Wat happens now wen people start taking him out will he actually be as successfully as a TE like Shockey who had safetys and linebackers double covering him
