Angry They Who Give Up On Eli Manning

For his first full year Eli Manning did very well. I think hes gonna be just as good as Carson Palmer who had a similair rookie year and if they continue to put players around him as they did with Sinorice Moss theyll have a SuperBowl trip soon. I cant believe WFAN saying how Eli is maybe going to be ok!!! Why do I listen to that station? They (Russo and Francesca) know NOTHING about football and I mean nothing. Manning struggled in the second half yes. A rookie struggling after some defenses make adjustments? Call CNN!!! Oh and his playoff game vs. the Panthers was text book how not to play QB but it actually wasnt really worse than Mr. I Never Throw The Ball Ben Rothisberger's referee assisted SuperBowl performance. Randle El's pass was better than any Big Ben threw all day and hes a WR!!! So Giant fans if you are disappointed in Eli and already think hes a bust do us who think hell actually correct very correctable mistakes a favor...go across the river to the guys in green and watch the other #10 QB suffer his latest injury. Eli Manning is the foundation of greatness and before he hangs it up will be what no other Manning has ever been....a SuperBowl Champion. I guarantee it!!!

Re: They Who Give Up On Eli Manning

Eli Manning should be good. How good, I can't say yet -- too early in his career to say for sure. But he's got a good corps of receivers around him, including a TE for 5-6 yard over the middle routes, and a solid running game, so all the ingrediants are there. He will definitely have every opportunity to be a great one.

Thats easy Marc...the line. The line gave Eli time to read defenses and watch cornerbacks better. He needs to improve his accuracy and have better 3rd reads which is when you dump it off to the running back. These are things that can be corrected. Just because Dan Marino did it in his second season (although technically this is Eli's first FULL season) doesnt mean Eli isnt gonna be great. Funny you brought up the "fans" Marc. I think they actually contributed to Eli's poor second half with their abandoning of their support of him. The O line is usually the culprit of greatness thats why im impressed with Jets drafting a great line which with some time and impact players (I get the feeling Deuce McAllister will be a Jet in 07 but its just a feeling ) rather than making a mistake in drafting Linehart. Nothing bad against Linehart but the line is always #1. Im a fan of Big Blue but Eric Mangini was a great coach to hire. Tom Coughlin seems to think along the same lines but the Jints are legit contenders for their conference the Jets arent. Next year or they year after yes but even the biggest Jets fan knows this year they hope for .500. THe Jets are starting their rebuilding and theyre doing a good job in my opinion. The Giants are ready...lets get that SuperBowl now!

I think Iwould credit Manning himself...biggest stage in the world...and the Kid catches on Fast...I use to be a big fan of his day Archie...I thought Archie was Staubach's and Bradshaw's equal...only with the bad luck of getting stuck on a lousy team for a decade...

Cool Re: They Who Give Up On Eli Manning

Trashed: I have to respectfully disagree with you. I watched every Giant game last year and he has big time accuracy problems. He often threw balls behind or ahead of his receivers on passes thrown in the middle of the field. It's amazing that he didn't get Shockey killed a couple of times. He throws nice long ball but on his timing stuff, he needs to get much better. Carson Palmer is much better than Manning at this point.

I think Manning was the beneficiary of a weak schedule and some great receiver play by Plaxico Burress and Shockey. This year the Giants play a first place schedule. There are no more 9 home games, Minnesotas and Arizonas on the schedule this year. Let's see what Manning can do against the likes of Jacksonville this year.

Respectfully disagree?...aaah now Pundit, that's no way to kick off an arguement... so my boy is not up to being Carson Palmer lately who is?...For the amount of pressure on this kid playing in the big apple, he did pretty good...Heck his big brother had something like 26 or 27 picks his first season...and look at him now...It usually takes about 5 years for a QB to truly master the offense....

Rookie QBs are often inaccurate. Its a case of a college QB getting used to pro reciever routes and cornerbacks. Carson Palmer is indeed far ahead of Manning. Theres a reason for this...Palmer has 2 full years including training camps knowing he was the "the man" under his belt and one year where he sat on the sidelines and was tutored by Jon Kitna. Manning was thrown to the lions (no not Detroit) 3/4s of the the way in 2004 after Coughlin realized that Kurt Warner is done and 2005 his first full year he did better than Palmer's first full year. If you really dont think a rookie QB especially one with such raw skills as Manning can't improve such a minor problem as his rookie year accuracy then youre not giving him a chance to watch film, practice and improve! Does he get that chance or does he have to be perfect? Oh its the New York media so I guess he does. If Eli played in Seattle not NY he wouldnt be henpecked liked this and no one would even BRING up his accuracy! I live in NYC and I assure you during football season sports fans are far more interested in free agent Mets and Yankee signings than if the Giants or Jets won the SuperBowl. Your avatar is beautiful Gotham. I always preferred the Superman "S" but you really have a nice eye catcher there Gotham!

Re: They Who Give Up On Eli Manning

Manning looks great at some points and looks terrible at other points. I've seen every single game he's played in the NFL and he has what it takes to excel just as much as his brother. However, he does have a bit of a problem with the accuracy. Many people talk about how he needs to step into his throwing motion (as if you were throwing a baseball) to be 100% accurate. When he doesn't step forward, the ball seems to float away from the intended target.

He seemed to turn the corner in his rookie season during the Steeler/Bengal games. They should've defeated the Steelers at that point in the year but just cmae off unlucky. Still, the way they ended the season that year, with Eli audibiling to the game winning play (a pass to Tiki to score the winning TD) was great.

Last year he took strides and we expect him to take more strides in his 3rd season. No reason he can't/won't.

Your post is what an realistic Giants fan who evalutates Eli's talent reflects Empire. I never said Eli doesnt have those things to improve upon but he has Arch and Peyton as tutors as well as the team who gets paid to teach him, the Giants! Remember Eli might well have been a victim of own success last season. Think about it...a first year QB beating teams like the Broncos with Elway like comebacks piles up an 11-5 record when the previous year they were what? 6-10? NYC was talking SuperBowl! Thats a lot of pressure for a rookie guys. Think maybe he pressed a bit and that might have made his throws a bit off? Possible huh? A QB takes about 3-4 years to develop no matter what media city hes in. If you give Eli that time, that opportunity I dont think hell let us down.
