Re: Shockey trade rumors

Shockey will heal his leg and be ready for the start of the season. Imagine the Giants offense when they're able to have two very good pass catching TEs and a solid blocker in Shockey...and a developing one in Boss on the field.

The media will jump all over Shockey during camp and whether he decides to skip the Miami stuff and head to Giants camp. Nonstory IMO.

Re: Shockey trade rumors

Shockey's not going anywhere despite the fact that Eli plays better without him in his face whining that he's not getting the ball enough. The Giants brass aren't the type to just let him go for a draft pick, unfortunately.

You would deal Shockey?

Why?

1. He's ALWAYS hurt
2. Is a distraction for the team
3. Drops more passes than he catches
4. Free up cap room/too expensive
5. Boss works better with the offense
6. Still need secondary help rather than an injury prone, big mouthed tight end and could use a pick for that purpose

Re: Shockey trade rumors

1. Although Shockey is usually dinged up, he has only missed four regular season games over the past three seasons.

2. I don't think it's proven that he's a distraction for the team. IMO, it may be that this side is blown up by the media.

3. Yep, he does drop more passes than anyone would like. But whenever he catches one, he's always a risk to break it open. Whenever he makes a catch, he fires up the crowd (if at home) and the team.

4. Shockey's not too expensive. I think his cap number is just below $3 million. It's not like the Giants are struggling to free cap space.

I'm just of the belief that Shockey is still a top playmaker in the league, plus he's a good blocker. When the 08 season gets underway, he'll be as hungry as ever to win.

Sounds like a plan to me. I'd deal him too, especially for reasons #2 and #4.

All do respect but how do you know that he's going to be hungry to win and how does that benefit the team even? Shockey's version of being hungry to win is yelling at his quarterback to force the ball to him and tell the media how bad his team is. These are things that are proven because they've happened in the past, more than a few times in fact. Plus they kind of won the Super Bowl with him on the sidelines. That says it all to me. Boss blocked and caught passes while Shockey stood there and collected a large check. Also what big plays did he make in the Giants 2007 season? I can't really remember any save the Cowboy game when he was open because they allowed him to be by putting the whole secondary on Plax (who played hurt ALL SEASON!!!).

Re: Shockey trade rumors

LOL, how was Shockey suppose to play with a broken leg?

You have me there about big plays this year. I can remember certain small plays where he popped the crowd...but nothing that sticks out.

I'd have a tough time letting go of such a great weapon.
