| Mercury Morris Tears Up for Giants Win ![]() Mercury Morris has become the outspoken spokesman for the 1972 Dolphins and their death-grip on the only undefeated season in modern NFL history. He was available to anyone who wanted to talk about the undefeated season. Now, he's drinking the champagne as he knows that the Dolphins just dodged their closest competition for perfection. He may have worn aqua during his career, but on Sunday night, Morris was a red, white and blue Giants fan, as he explained to ESPN: "When this kid scored, a tear came to my eye because I'm emotional. You guys know you never see me like this. I'm very humbled at what the Giants were able to do as underdogs. Realize that on any given Sunday anyone can beat anyone else, except in 1972.With the Patriots loss, the Dolphins are likely safe for several more years to come. With a slew of players in their 60s now, it's likely that many will now be able to live the rest of their lives without having to welcome anyone else to their club. | Re: Mercury Morris Tears Up for Giants Win Ah, let them stay...they did one great big thing in life and are still living off of it...you know, sure they can be annoying...but is it them or is it the media that haunts them for quotes?...Cause all they are doing is celebrating what they did...heck, Brian Kingman would celebrate the fact that he was the last 20 game loser in MLB for a long time...it seems normal in sports.

| Re: Mercury Morris Tears Up for Giants Win I sure hope not. I agree that they're honest with their feelings, and for that maybe they should be commended. I just find it pathetic that they cling to this past glory so tightly. You know, yeah, it was a big feat. But the model should be the Roger Maris family and how they supported McGwire and Sosa as they chased 61. Maybe it's different because it wasn't "their" record actually being broken, but to me, that's how I want to see old timers conduct themselves - not revelling and popping champaign corks every time they lose, holding tight to glories some three decades old that really should've been surpassed by other events in their lives by this point.

What's the difference?...A camera rolling hoping for a quote they can run on the news? In Mercury Morris case, the dude did hard time for drugs after his NFL glory days...and yeah, its probably his highlight and why he is the most outspoken... Griese, went on to better things, one of their safety is or was a State Senator...another was a Mayor...thier Middle Line Backer a fortune 500 CEO etc... But Morris...that might be it for him. |

| Re: Mercury Morris Tears Up for Giants Win Well, Goth, maybe it is just me. But I find high school reunions distasteful for the same reasons - no sense dwelling endlessly on the past. Worry about the future instead. I guess it's not really hurting anyone, but they just seem so egotistical, so petty about this record. It bugs me. |

And its that attitude of being better than anyone else that helped get them there...how do you shut down that competitive nature once you are done with the game? |

| Re: Mercury Morris Tears Up for Giants Win If Don Shula hadn't made the remark he did the entire past may never have been an issue. Like to many others he blamed the team for the actions of one or a few. Either way it wasn't the team that should fall under his statement.I never once heard Belichick bring up Shula's little problem from back in the late 60's or was that different ??? |
