There are rumors that if the Giants are eliminated tonight from the playoffs, the Atlanta Falcons may offer their head coaching job to Giants defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo as soon as this week. But if the Giants advance, the Falcons may not want to wait the extra two weeks and go elsewhere.

An interesting story that will be impacted by the result of the game.

If Atlanta's convinced that Spagnolo's the right guy, they should wait for him. Two weeks is nothing compared to hiring the wrong guy.

I'm a bit surprised at the interest in Spagnolo. Yes, he's definitely done a GREAT job this year, but he only has one year of coordinator experience. Tim Lewis (who Spagnolo replaced) was also hot at some point, and now he's back to being a defensive backs coach, not even a defensive coordinator. I think it's still too early to tell whether Spagnolo will be a eaither a new Belichick or a new Mangini.

That seems to be the deal with the young coordinators. Remember the Jets and Donnie Henderson? I couldn't even tell you which team he's with now (I want to say Minnesota?). After his first year with the Jets, he was being interviewed for head coaching gigs, didn't get one and probably won't for a long time now.
