The Giants Can Beat the Packers By...

The Daily News' Ralph Vacchiano offers ways for the Giants to defeat the Green Bay Packers in Lambeau on Sunday...

1) Rattle Brett Favre: "So the Giants and their NFL-best pass rush need to hit him the way they did Jeff Garcia two weeks ago (12 times) and pressure him like they did Tony Romo in the second half on Sunday. And they have to do it carefully, because Favre is behind one of the league's toughest offensive lines, he has a dangerous array of receivers..."

"The best bet may be to blitz up the middle, the softest part of the Packers' line, and avoid trying to pressure tackles Chad Clifton and Mark Tauscher. One key player to watch, according to several executives and scouts: defensive end Justin Tuck, the Giants' best multi-purpose defender. He has the strength and speed to get to the quarterback from anywhere on the line."

2) Watch the backside covering the run game: "That means Spagnuolo must find a way not just to pressure Favre, but also to not over-commit his defenders because Grant will just cut behind them. He also has to figure out how to counter the zone-blocking and fill up those holes. He has to make sure the linebackers or linemen who aren't blitzing stay patient and fill their gaps.

Once again, noted one scout, the key to that could be the versatile Tuck, who can be maneuvered to plug gaps all along the line."

3) Use Misdirection: "The Packers have a young, talented, aggressive and physical defense that, in the words of one scout "will try to out-physical you." Their primary goal, on a cold day against Eli Manning, will undoubtedly be to stop the Giants' running game. And to do that, they are likely to slowly inch safeties Nick Collins and Atari Bigby toward the line. 'Then (run) play-action off of that. Green Bay's safeties are going to cheat up to stop the run, so play-action is going to be good.' Manning has been pretty good at play-action passes. He used them - and pump fakes - particularly well in the Giants' 24-14 wild-card win in Tampa Bay. Those are ways to knock an overly aggressive defense off balance."

4) Safe & Smart: "The two biggest numbers for the Giants in the playoffs so far: eight penalties, zero turnovers. They will have to, because as one scout said, "The Giants will have to play flawless" to beat the Packers. Mike McCarthy's team is incredibly poised and Favre knows how to take advantage of miscues. And on a ridiculously cold day when holding onto the ball could be tough, it will be easy to make mistakes."

It will be cold and windy, we saw what Farve does in that vs. the Bears . Plus the Giants will be sending everyone but the water boy at Farve. I think the Giants can rattle Farve.

They could come at him with maces and polearms. I don't think it'd phase him one iota.

lol, Favre isn't superman. If they can get him off his base and have him run around, he'll hopefully toss some picks. Don't forget, he does lead the NFL in all-time interceptions.

The Hawks have talented pass rushers but the Giants send anyone and everyone at the QB. I would give the Giants a better chance your Seahawks at messing with Farve.

Its not going to be easy to rattle Favre in a big game like this. He lives for this stuff.
Dont forget that hes like 45-5 at Lambeau when its below 34 degrees.
Its not going to be as windy as it was the day at Chicago.

The Packers have only lost ONCE in the post-season at Lambeau. That came at the hands of Michael Vick a few years back.

It's time for loss #2!

Yeah, he is beyond that...Favre will either win or lose on his own... I don't think you could throw anything at this guy...

And doesn't Straham owe him one for the sack record?...just saying...

Whoa, dont think I care for that. Besides, it wont come into play here. Strahan is too competitive and too much is on the line.
Great, now I suppose the least little thing and the Packer's win could be questioned. (If they win Empire)

Re: The Giants Can Beat the Packers By...

Playing smart really is the key. How many stupid mistakes have we seen the Giants make the past couple of years. They finally got their act together the past few weeks. But they also can't be too conservative either. They almost blew the game last week with those two consecutive three-and-outs at the end of the game. On their last possession before Dallas' last drive, the Giants had 2nd and 5 and I'm yelling "play action, play action." Of course they ran the ball for no gain and then Eli was sacked on 3rd down.

The Giants have been grate of late with the lack of penalties and zero turnovers. MUST KEEP IT UP this weekend if they want to win. Period.

You mean like just few short weeks ago when a young guy named Todd Collins (aka: the human statue) went into Giants stadium and had no problem with the Giants "vaunted" pass rush.

The same Todd Collins that was running for his life against the Seahawks
