GMen Draft Thread

Halfway through the 1st round, here are the notable players left...

OLB DeMeco Ryans
CB Ashton Youboty
CB Jimmy Williams
OT Winston Justice
OT Marcus McNeil
C Nick Mangold
WR Sinorice Moss
WR Chad Jackson

Here are some notes from BBI from the local papers regarding the Giants draft..

Quote:
# The Star-Ledger: Based on an unidentified source, the paper says the Giants are interested in WR Chad Jackson (Florida), LB Bobby Carpenter (Ohio State), CB Antonio Cromartie (Florida State), CB Johnathan Joseph (South Carolina), and HB Laurence Maroney (Minnesota) in the first round. The Ledger predicts the pick will be Maroney.
# The New York Post: The paper says the Giants will not take a left tackle or running back in the first round unless all other options are gone. The Post believes the Giants are most likely to draft a linebacker, cornerback, or wide receiver.
# The Daily News: Based on an unidentified source, the paper says the Giants would prefer to draft a defensive player at linebacker, cornerback, or defensive tackle, but could select a wide receiver, left tackle, or halfback if other options are gone

Re: GMen Draft Thread

Cromartie, Youbouty, Holmes, Moss, Jackson, Ryans, Greenway and Carpenter all fill needs for the Giants, and you've got to figure at least one of them should be there. I think they'll get an awful good pick at #25.

Re: GMen Draft Thread

There's also been talk that they've been shopping LB Reggie Torbor and could get as high as a 3rd round pick (this year) for him. Interesting if they decide to deal him, and go defense in the 1st.

I find interesting the fact that there are some out there who think the Giants could go after a RB in the 1st (DeAngelo or Maroney). Possibly even trade the 25th overall pick for a team wanting one of the RBs. Perhaps a team wants LenDale White and would want to jump ahead of the Panthers. You never know.

The Giants are on the clock. We'll find out what they do soon enough.

Re: GMen Draft Thread

Traded the pick to the Steelers, who used it to snag Santonio Holmes. New York now picks #32, and they pick up Pittsburgh's 3rd and 4th round picks. Not too bad a deal, especially if they can get a WR later at #32.

Re: GMen Draft Thread

Great move by EA for the Giants. Obviously they weren't in love with any of the players available and were able to pick up a couple of extra mid-round picks. They'll be able to draft CB, DT, RB or WR or even OL with the 32nd pick.

Re: GMen Draft Thread

Well, the GMen frankly surprise EVERYONE and take the DE Mathias Kiwanuka. He was projected to be a high-mid 1st round pick the past two years but fell due to injury questions and being OWNED by DBrickashaw in one of the all star games.

I feel they made it for depth on the DL and possibly the successor to Strahan. A DE group of Strahan, Umenyiora, Tuck and Kiwanuka is pretty good.

Re: GMen Draft Thread

I like Kiwanuka. I have the feeling he'll be a Dwight Freeney type speed rusher off the edge -- that is, if NY doesn't try to convert him to LB. I'm also high on their second round selection, Sinorice Moss, the 5-8, 185-pound WR from Miami. Definitely worth trading up for.

Re: GMen Draft Thread

Just saw they drafted Moss, good move. A guy they could've had in the 1st, took in the 2nd and still have a 3rd to boot (after dealing up in the 2nd). Good moves from EA on the 1st day.
