Instead of Shaking Off Tacklers, Tiki Barber Does the Tackling

By David Geller: SPM NJ Writer (Commentary): Aug. 22, 2007

Great article. Definitely gets to the heart of what makes this whole situation with Tiki so damn distasteful: "Self-promotion is a fickle thing. Tiki now appears willing to sacrifice the loyalty of his many fans in exchange for more eyes and ears focused on him during his NBC on-air appearances..."

Self Promoting is an art not a science...some like Ali can pull it off, and some can't...Tiki's charm does not lend himself to self promotion...he needs to take a different route to success.

It's a shame that he's decided to equate ripping ex-teammates and coaches with self-promotion. As Ali proved, there are other ways to go about it.

I love it when players write tell all books after they retire. It's great to see what the player REALLY had in his mind instead of the mundane droning that they monotonely speak to reporters because if they told the truth they get a fine or worse. I found it particularly funny that Barber was laughing at Eli Manning for trying to take over the offense in the huddle during a game.

I remember them laughing harder over Jesse Palmer being a QB...

If a player wants to be honest with everyone, why not do it during their career (Keyshawn, TO). Doing it after and then knocking teammates and whomever just seems bushleague.

Giants fans just want Tiki to shut up about the Giants...let him talk about something else.
