NFL player Michael Strahan has signed on to host "Backyard Stadiums," a new home-improvement show for DIY Network. The half-hour series, debuting at 10 p.m. ET on Sept. 5, follows the New York Giants defensive end as he helps families design and build sports facilities in their own back yards -- from batting cages to skateboard half-pipes to miniature golf courses.

Some of Strahan's athlete friends -- including Major League Soccer star Clint Mathis of the New York Red Bulls, former NBA star Darryl Dawkins, former NFL quarterback Neil O'Donnell and pro skateboarder Dan MacFarlane -- also make surprise appearances to give pointers in their respective sports.
