Is Michael Strahan a surefire Hall of Famer? Pete Prisco of CBS Sportsline
thinks so.
Mike Strahan, DE, New York Giants
Decision: Welcome to Canton.
He’s been a dominant player for a long time, but is he in the Bruce Smith-Reggie White class? He’s not, but he’s the all-time sack leader. Plus, the media likes him. He’ll get in.
While I do agree that Strahan is Hall of Fame bound, there are a few problems with Prisco’s analysis. Can anyone guess what they are?
First of all, Michael Strahan is
not the all time sacks leader. Yes, he does hold the single-season record, but the all-time record? Not even close! Come on Pete, you get paid for this stuff!
Secondly, since when does the media liking a player get put on their Hall of Fame resume? I understand that some media members have to vote for them, but that should be the very last thing people consider when voting for (or against) a player.
The reality is, Strahan is going to the Hall of Fame because he’s been a dominant player throughout his career. There weren’t a few good years that stood out above the rest; he’s been consistently dominant since (almost) day one. And if he can stay healthy this year, I still think he has something left in the tank. I honestly do not believe he’s done writing that Hall of Fame resume just yet.
