Re: Eli Manning contract extension

You have to agree with the move. Although I know many Giant fans hope they can restructure the financial figures to ease some burden on the cap. In any event, the Giants will live or die with Manning at the helm. 07 seems to be a down year while Coughlin is on the way out and Reese can find his guy for 2008. I have faith that Eli is the right guy to lead the Giants though.

where did i say that ?

show me

i never once said he was overrated i dont think he is worth a large extension

i merely said most of the fans today dont want to wait for a QB to develop they dont want to go through the process.....they want results now.....this society is turning less and less patient by the minute

look before you leap dude its a long way down

I don't think that's a factor in this decision. If he wasn't given the extension, he would be eligible to become a free agent at the end of the season. Hardly a tough decision when you look at it like that.

Re: Eli Manning contract extension

Well I say Eli is an average quarterback at the moment. Now i'm not going into potential or who he was better than at this point in his career, i'm just going by what I see on the field. Eli has a superb cast to carry his game in Burress, Toomer, Shockey, Barber, etc. Still I think Eli can be in the very good category and most importantly cut down on those INTs if he was an offense better suited to his skills. This offense is far too complicated for Mannning who seeming likes to do things and has success doing those things at a far quicker pace. With that in mind i'm surprised they kept Coughlin and didn't go for an offense minded coach, one who could really benefit Eli Manning.

I'm firmly convinced now that the NY Giants are a tax write off!!!
I totally agree with Nuke. This is crazy. Take the name Manning off his back and just based on his skill, he's not very good. I've watched pretty much every Giant game since he's been here and he is NOT ACCURATE.

Cool Re: Eli Manning contract extension

WAIT. The Giants are denying this rumor.
Quote:
A report that the Giants have extended quarterback Eli Manning's contract through the 2012 season is not true, according to the team.

The Giants weeks ago triggered a buy-back option that increased Manning's salaries for the last three years of the deal, which terminates after the 2009 season. The final two years of the contract would have been voided if they were not bought back.

"It is the same contract that was reported as six years and $45-54 million back in 2004," reads a statement issued Monday by the Giants. "All of the buy-back bonus and simple escalators that have been earned are included in those same numbers that were initially reported.

"Eli's contract goes through 2009. We exercised a buy-back which was intended to be exercised all along and has been planned for accordingly. There is nothing 'new' about Eli's current contract status."

As a result, Manning's salaries rise from $1.8 million to $6 million this year, $1.6 million to $8 million in 2008 and $2.1 million to $8.5 million in 2009.

Monday, the Giants signed Houston blocking fullback Vonta Leach to an offer sheet reportedly worth $8 million over four years. The Texans have seven days to match the offer. Since the 6-foot, 250-pound Leach was a free agent signee with Green Bay, there is no compensation involved.

The Giants' off-season program began Monday and while the team is not issuing any "attendance report," neither tight end Jeremy Shockey nor wide receiver Plaxico Burress was in house. The two have spent the bulk of the past two off-seasons working out in Miami.

Manning was there, as were defensive end Michael Strahan, cornerback Sam Madison, center Shaun O'Hara and tackle Kareem McKenzie, among others.

"I always like to work out in the middle group," Manning said through a team release. "That way you get to see the guys from the early group as they're finishing up, then you see the guys in your group, then catch the guys in the final group.

"So you kind of get to see everybody get back in.''

Re: Eli Manning contract extension

well according to that Pundit his contract wasnt due to run out until 09 already.........not after this season like Empire thought

so now i really see no reason for the bump in salary

you want more money how about winning a few playoff games.....like Nuke said, he has the talent around him
