Giants Trade for Reuben Droughns

On Friday, the Giants finalized a deal with the Cleveland Browns for running back Reuben Droughns. The Giants will send Tim Carter to Cleveland in the deal.

Star Ledger reporter
Mike Garafolo posted on his blog about comments an unnamed Giants player had regarding the trade: "Wow. Best trade ever."

Now that's funny.

Great trade. Instead of cutting Carter, you get a starting running back who has had success in the league.

Good deal for the Giants. Droughns is more than capable of sharing the workload with Jacobs and Carter is a luxury while a runningback with starting experience is a necessity at this time.

Re: Giants Trade for Reuben Droughns

As long as Reuben can keep himself out of trouble (he had a DUI and a domestic violence charge over the past year, but was acquitten on one and had charges dropped in the other case), this solves the Giants problems at RB, running a Droughns/Jacobs split backfield. Droughns isn't as good as Tiki, but he'll do.

Well like you said it's will be a split backfield with Droughns. With Tiki it really wasn't that. As for his off the field problems he'll have to take a number for the scores of NFL players in trouble with the law...it's becoming part of the game now just as much as contracts, salary caps and injuries.

This deal should work out well.

How come the Jets don't get him?

Because they traded for Thomas Jones.

Boy, Marc, I get the feeling that you're not real high on Thomas Jones. I'd definitely take Jones over Droughns.

Re: Giants Trade for Reuben Droughns

As would I Lefty. Jones has done well for a period of time thats longer than the time Droughsn spent as a starter. Hopefully, it works out because between Droughs and Jacobs, that's one hell of a bruising combo for a defense to face for four quarters.

Re: Giants Trade for Reuben Droughns

Plus Jones is a power runner and Droughns isn't. Look at their touchdown and first down totals. The Jets needed a powerback while the Giants already have Brandon Jacobs.
