Giants Interested in Chris Palmer

Not Carson Palmer! The Giants have asked and received permission from the Dallas Cowboys to interview formally, QB Coach Chris Palmer. Palmer has spent over 30 years in the game and has had some success in coaching QBs. Most recently, Tony Romo.

Re: Giants Interested in Chris Palmer

Yeah, Palmer was lousy as the Cleveland head coach. But then, who hasn't looked lousy coaching the modern-day Browns.

If I were the Giants, I would run away. And very fast at that.

The guy is absolutely atrocious. I credit him for single-handedly destroying the confidence of Tim Couch and David Carr. Granted, I think Eli has more talent than both, but Palmer is bad news. He is a quarterback killer, plain and simple. This may be the worst hire of the off-season if it goes through.

Without looking at the stats/years, didn't Couch have his best year(s) under Palmer?

Couch's best year was 2002, which was with Butch Davis, who was another pitiful coach.

My biggest issues with Palmer is his neglect for quarterback mechanics and his narrow-minded approach to development. While he was head coach of the Browns and offensive coordinator of the Texans, Couch and Carr respectively had awfully inconsistent mechanics. Both threw off their back feet way more than I'd like and both regressed in terms of their release. Palmer never addressed decision making with either quarterback, as they continually made poor decisions. After he failed with Couch, he was given David Carr. What did he do? Dust off the same developmental techniques that failed with Couch.

Eli Manning's mechanics and decision making ability are the only things holding him back from becoming an upper echelon quarterback. Palmer is not the one to straighten them out.

To his credit, he never had an offensive line in front of them, which certainly played a part in their lackluster careers. However, he seemed content to let their mechanics regress, which is a huge no-no as a coach.

Notrorious:

If Palmer was to blame for Couch, how come Couch never caught on with another team?

Re: Giants Interested in Chris Palmer

Some outlets are reporting Chris Palmer has been hired as the Giants QB Coach.

Looks like it will be totally confirmed tomorrow.

The reasons are twofold:

1.) He has had three (or four?) surgically repaired shoulders. I'm not talking minor procedures, I'm talking completely torn apart and put back together. That'll kill a career.

2.) His confidence was shot already.
