Re: Tom Coughlin Is Back! Let me say first that there has been no word on the GM search or which (if any...and you best believe some will be) coaches are gone. I'm apart of the group of Giants fans who are ticked right now. John Tisch (team treasurer) spoke about stability and loyalty being key things. WHAT?! So to provide your franchise stability, you give a questionable head coach a one year extension. Basically, you're putting all the pressure on the guy to do well in 2007 or he will be gone after then. What stability? What kind of assistants or free agents will sign here knowing Coughlin is still on borrowed time? If the Giants get off to a slow start next year, it's going to be even more chaotic then the end of the 06 season was. The argument that there was no decent head coach available now, so keep Coughlin is bull. During the Coughlin regime, penalties have become commonplace. Injuries are a way of life. Inconsistant play, poor playcalling and overall poor coaching have cost the Giants tons of games. This is a bad decision. Now 2007 will become a wasted year if the Giants do anything but reach the NFC Championship/Super Bowl, since he'll likely be fired anyway. Mind boggling is the word.

Re: Tom Coughlin Is Back! Next year he's not gonna have Barber so the going is gonna be a LOT harder since he was about 65% of their offense. How the hell is he gonna turn it around? What magic dust is he gonna sprinkle on Eli Manning to make him a halfway decent quarterback? I honestly think that it has to do with the one year he has to go on his contract. The new Giants brass doesn't care about winning as long as they make a profit which they did this year so they don't want to lose 1 year of Coughlin's contract. What a bunch of losers! This is the kind of boneheaded decison Al Davis would make!

Re: Tom Coughlin Is Back! John Mara was on the local radio earlier today. He said he didn't see a reason why Coughlin should have been fired. According to him, the players listen and play hard for the guy. There was even a report that Mara personally asked some of the players and they vouched for Coughlin. While on the radio, Mara (without saying as much) said Coughlin must win next year or he's gone. But you can bet surefire coaching changes are in the works. I know Giants fans want to see both Tim Lewis and Kevin Gilbride gone.

Re: Tom Coughlin Is Back! There is no real "ultimatum" but if he wants to keep his job, he needs to win. It's mainly about keeping the players healthy and playing up to their potential. But as you said, without a consistant 1600 yard rusher, it will be more difficult.
