Coughlin Decision Pushed Back To Tomorrow

Giants PR guy Pat Hanlon issued an e-mail this afternoon telling people a decision on the future of Tom Coughlin will be pushed back to tomorrow. As Star Ledger reporter Mike Garafolo believes though, Coughlin will receive a one-year extension with a plethora of items. From the firing of coaches, his own behavior and actions towards players and perhaps even the removal of some players, talks are ongoing tonight.

Coughlin verdict pushed back

Anyway, if Coughlin was going to be fired, it would have happened already. He’d be on the next flight to Oakland by now.

But he’s not. And the team has pushed back the time frame for any announcement indefinitely. Not that it was ever official, but they were hopeful there would be some type of announcement today. Now, they’ve informed us it won’t come until at least tomorrow. In the e-mailed words of the immortal Pat Hanlon, “thorough review/discussions continue.”

How long would the discussion be if Coughlin was getting canned?...it wouldn’t take two days.

What would last that long would be “review and discussions” of stipulations Mara-Tisch have for Coughlin keeping his job: Firing a few coaches, getting rid of several players and perhaps changing his tactics a bit to make him more player-friendly.

Oh, and there are the contract negotiations. I still believe (thanks to those I’ve spoken to and my own opinions) that Coughlin will get one more year added to his deal. You might think that conversation would be even shorter than the dismissal – kind of like when Kramer is offered “all the free coffee you want in any of our stores in North America and Asia, plus…” and he jumps up and yells, “I’ll take it!”

But folks, these negotiations tend to be a bit more complicated. And I think that’s why everything’s been pushed back until tomorrow. That’s when I believe Coughlin is staying and Jerry Reese is the new GM.

The axe will fall elsewhere. Look out, Tim Lewis.

Most fans want him gone but it looks like he'll stay for at least another year.

It looks like Coughlin will be back. Various outlets are citing "sources" (without confirming though) that Coughlin will be back with a one-year extension. However the kicker will be major changes on his staff (ie..bye bye Tim Lewis, defensive coordinator).

Tomorrow should be an interesting day.

I doubt this will be a very popular decision in New York. Or in the Giants locker room, for that matter.

Yeah that's for sure. I wonder what the Giant brass is thinking by keeping this guy. Good coach or not he's not right for this team at all.
