The Giants will ask for permission to interview current Patriots VP of player personnel Scott Pioli as early as this week according to the Star Ledger.

The article says Pioli is the favorite candidate among people outside the organiation. As for in-house candidates, Jerry Reese is the favorite although he's been linked to the vacant Tennessee Titans GM job.

Also interesting is the belief that if Pioli is hired, the rumors of Charlie Weis may grow. The article cites a source as saying Weis is interested in the Giants job. Take it with a grain of salt I guess but you never know.

EDIT.....Newsday's Arthur Staple reports Pioli declined an interview with the Giants. This is even after the Patriots granted the Giants' request for permission to talk to him.

I guess Jerry Reese will be the next Giants GM.

Well, so much for that. The rumor was Pioli as GM and Weis as coach, but I guess neither is likely to happen now.
