Conflicting reports about head coach Tom Coughlin’s future have many speculating whether he’ll be back next season. And though sources indicate the team hasn’t made a firm decision on the matter, there are strong indications Coughlin will return in 2007 for the final year of his deal. There are several extenuating circumstances, however. First is the matter of Coughlin’s assistants. There has been increased pressure on the offensive coaches, considering QB Eli Manning’s perceived lack of progress in his third season, and that could cost QB coach Kevin Gilbride and perhaps coordinator John Hufnagel their jobs. Coughlin is known as a loyal guy and might fight hard for his assistants’ jobs, but if it comes down to a them-or-him situation, Coughlin likely would find replacements. Sources close to two Giants players told PFW that the players don’t necessarily hate their coach, but they have grown tired of his rah-rah style in the locker room and feel he has been outcoached more often than not lately. Has he lost the players? The consensus is probably not, but another poor season — if he’s retained — would certainly mean the end.

Again, it's all a rumor so take it with a grain of salt.

I don't think they're going to fire him. Especially with Tiki and Accorsi retiring, how much change can they put up with, plus, the Giants are pretty much a shoe-in for a playoff spot.

I sort of agree with Pundit. With Accorsi leaving, unless they bring in a GM from outside the organization, I can't see why they'd fire Coughlin. However, they either have to fire him or give him an extension after this season. You can't have a guy with 1-year left coaching the team.

to not fire a coach cause a gm and rb are retiring i think is the wrong idea IMO. you have def seen teams fire their gm and coach and lose some key players over one offseason.

the giants got coughlin because he was a disicplinary type coach. Have we seen any of that nope. He has brought in a horrible offensive corrdinator who they will not get rid of. Im not even a fan of tim lewis he doesnt bring pressure to close games out instead we have things like the titan games. I see no reason to give this man a contract extension the giants historically are way to loyal to their coaches. Let Coughlin go for god sake, and to the who will ask where you going to find a coach, remember nobuddy was really talking about the jets coach going into last year im sure they are there and i say let arcossi pick one on the way out
