To his defense, the playcalling/dropped passes/stupid penalties on other players on offense didn't help him all that much.

2 out of those 3 can be attributed to his inability to motivate his players. The Giants don't listen to Coughlin anymore it's that simple. You know what Madden says, "You can't fire the players so you have to fire the coach."

Re: Do You Want to Fire Tom Coughlin?

you are right, but no one gets along with Coughlin..and no one will so the giants have a double whammy...all we can hope for is lose the coaching staff and get some one that can dumb down the offence enough untill the management figurures out that Eli is a pig in a poke....coughlin has to go fast or next year is going to be a rerun of this year..

Re: Do You Want to Fire Tom Coughlin?

Eli does ok at a face pace and simply chucking the ball downfield but Coughlin thinks he's Bill Walsh with all these timing patterns and stuff and it's not a good system for Eli at all. Eli will be a bust unless he gets his playcalling faster and simpler. My opinion.

Re: Do You Want to Fire Tom Coughlin?

Although it's not official, it sounds like Coughlin has to win at least one playoff game to keep his job.

At the very least, he'll stay but I'm sure he'd be pushed to change his coaching staff.

Re: Do You Want to Fire Tom Coughlin?

If Joe Gibbs had a brain the Redskins could have blown out the Giants!! I mean filling up the secondary to prevent Eli from passing so as to make Barber beat you with the running game??? Brilliant!!! As a result, Barber, one of the great backs in the game ran all over the field virually untouched the whole game while Manning as usual couldn't complete a pass to wide open recievers.

Cool Re: Do You Want to Fire Tom Coughlin?

Franklee of Giants football blog feels that even if the Giants win this weekend, Coughlin's job i snot necessarily safe.
Quote:
As time goes by, it appears co-owners John Mara and Steve Tisch are more concerned with how the team looks and feels moving forward and less obsessed with the Giants beating the Eagles (which would likely make Coughlin safe) or keeping the game respectable.
Giant Football Blog: Coughlin still safe, for now
I'm not a Giants fan but I think Coughlin is not a good coach. The players don't respond to him him, are undisciplined, and Eli Manning has not improved under him.

Re: Do You Want to Fire Tom Coughlin?

From an article in today's NY Post:

"Coughlin is coaching for his future employment with the Giants.

One source with knowledge of the thinking of the owners said if the Giants do not upset the Eagles, Coughlin gets fired. "

I believe it.

Talking Re: Do You Want to Fire Tom Coughlin?

it is both a combination of the players listening to either Coughlin or Eli. They chuck Coughlin in interviews everytime something doesn't go the way they want and brush Eli off on the sidelines when they make mistakes. They've no field general and no "King" in the locker room to hold people accountable. I think it's deserving of mention that Eli chose not to go to a team that is in all likelihood headed to the superbowl. Fire Coughlin, trade Eli!

Well, the team Eli chose not to go to was a horrible team. They've improved since then but still.
