Strahan Ties Lawrence Taylor

with the Dallas game Strahan tied LT on the all time sacks list

surely Mike has more seasons to play and may get another 20 or more sacks

my questions is, even if he never gets a ring, does being the all time sack leader make Strahan a 1st ballot Hall Of Famer ?

i think it does

See, I don't know if that makes him a first ballot guy or not. The career sack mark has been passed around a lot. Reggie White definitely was. Bruce Smith? I'm not so sure. If Strahan tops Smith's record, how long will it be before someone else tops his record. And then there's always the caveat about how sack's weren't an official stat for years and years and years. Stahan has been a very good player, but is he a legend? I'd be hard pressed to call him one.

Re: Strahan Ties Lawrence Taylor

Just take into account the official sack stat didn't become official until LT's sophmore season. That's just a little nugget to ponder.

As for Strahan, he's definitely a hall of famer. First ballot? I could probably see it, but wouldn't be shocked if he was a second ballot HOFer. He's been one of the best DEs in the game for more of the last 7-9 years. He's racked up so many sacks, including the single season record and has made so many pro bowls.

yeah....hall of famer...but not 1st ballot...1st ballot lineman, you got to go with a Reggie, or a Bob Lilly type...or a Mean Joe Green...

Yknow if Strahan isn't a legend then he's right at the door knocking. Remember Strahan never played on a Reggie White, Joe Green caliber defense so it was him most of the time getting the attention. I'm sure once he's ready to call it a career whenever that is because at age 35 he hasn't lost ONE STEP!!! As for Bruce Smith? Yes i'd make him a first ballot HOFer in my opinion.

Exactly! Great point. Practically until Osi Umenyiora became a serious threat, every opposing offense calculated their blocking towards Strahan. They rarely had anyone else worth double teaming (I guess you could count MLB Jessie Armstead when he was a great player..) but rarely did other teams have to double team the other DE. Strahan put together a hall of fame worthy career as the #1 guy on usually an average to above average complete defense. Props belong to the man who went to tcu.

Doesn't matter...we are talking Hall of Fame and the team is part of what gets you in...its gotten a heck of lot of Steelers and Cowboys...its the nature of the beast...look at Archie Manning...great QB...sorry, sorry team...he's gonna have to buy a ticket to get in....

Strahan will not go on a 1st ballot....he is like some of those 70's Rams lineman that is gonna have to wait a spell.
