I've always thought McCutcheon, Mitchell and Mark van Eeghen (yes, I had to look up the spelling) have been overlooked by historians. Ironically, the career rushing stats of all 3 are almost identical. And those Rams teams of the mid-70s were really, really good at a really, really tough time, with the Cowboys and Vikings always, always just a bit better. I have a lot of nostalgia for the 70s NFL, since I grew up then and almost all of my FB cards are from that era. And it's weird that for the most part, that era was dominated by 3 NFC and 3 AFC teams, the Steelers, Raiders and Dolphins, of course, being the AFC teams. Other than a year by the Redskins here or the Broncos there, and some valiant efforts by Earl Campbell, that was the decade in a nutshell.

Cool Re: Tiki Barber Retirement Next Year

That's when I grew up too....Some QB's of that era that I used to like: Bert Jones, Steve Grogan, Steve Bartkowski, Jim Zorn, and Dan Pastorini (I left out the great ones like Bradshaw, Staubach, and The Snake etc...).

Re: Tiki Barber Retirement Next Year

Even though Tiki Barber has been playing on the Giants for about 10 years, I believe he still has game in him as a superb RB. Just a few games ago he was able to rush 185 yards to gain another win for the Giants. Him and Shockey are like the fail safe for the Giants. Without him, the giants would never be where they are in the season. Keep going Tiki!!!

Re: Tiki Barber Retirement Next Year

Tiki Barber has earned more Fantasy Football Points (according to Yahoo!) than Edgerrin James of the Arizona Cardinals. Personally, I feel that Tiki Barber has a few more decent years in his career. Brandon Jacobs has Pro-Bowl potential as long as he learns a few more tips from Tiki Barber who is basically his mentor at this stage in the game. Plus, Tiki Barber should keep on playing if he is one of the best in the game. If he starts to slip off the charts like Barry Bonds (2004-2006), then it would be the appropriate time to call it quits. Of course, football is a different story because it is a physical sport that drenches your last skills from your body. Most football players who retire don't live that long because their bodies are worn out from those brutal Sundays.

Re: Tiki Barber Retirement Next Year

Was watching Tiki being interviewed on Nfl Network, sound's like he's retiring at the end of the season by the way he was talking imo. He said his body has taking a beating and he want's to go out on his own term's and be able to play with his kid's in the future and want's to do other thing's..he is very talented behind the microphone and i see him going into broad casting.

It's been rumored that the Giant's could go after Michael Turner of the Charger's to possibly replace Tiki next year...the Charger's have alot money tied up with L.T and might not be able to match a Giant's offer of doe for Turner next year.

I don't think Tiki is a Hall of Famer...but is one heck of a runner and i for one as a Cowboy fan would'nt mind if he retired

Re: Tiki Barber Retirement Next Year

I would rather have Brandon Jacobs replace Tiki Barber.

At least, Jacobs has shown some flashes of brilliance in his appearances!

Lets turn those dim flashes into light.

Are you kidding? I like Jacobs, but have you seen Turner? The dude's averaging 6.0 yards per carry for his career, and even behind Tomlinson, he's 14th in the AFC in rushing -- above any Indianapolis, Cleveland, Jets or Houston runners. His 6.6 per carry average for this season is top among all qualifying AFC running backs, as well. The Giants would be foolish to pass on a tailback of his talent level.

Re: Tiki Barber Retirement Next Year

Yep, I see it like Lefty. Turner has been an amazing back-up to LT and especially since they've looked towards reducing his workload to save him for the long season. I doubt the Giants go that way.

But it's all a moot point. Ernie Accorsi is leaving after this season and it appears Tiki Barber will as well. The new GM, whomever that is, will have to find at least some capable back to compliment Brandon Jacobs (who I love as a player, he's intense and has great feet for such a big guy).

3. Thurman Thomas
4. Jerome Bettis
5. Ricky Watters
6. Roger Craig (3 SB titles)
7. LT and Alexander

Strong cases could be made for Eddie George and Ottis Anderson over Tiki. Plus, guys like Corey Dillon and Warrick Dunn are still adding to their career totals and may well eclipse Tiki by the time they're done.

Tiki's been a very talented player. But he's never been the best player or best RB in the league, and he's never won a SB (and was not much of a factor when the Giants got walloped in 2000). He started very slowly for an RB, which is unusual because most RBs with comparable numbers started very strong and slowed significantly by age 31. But nonetheless, it's not like he was Steve Young waiting for his turn behind Joe Montana or anything (Gary Brown and Charles Way led the team in rushing his first 2 years, for pete's sake!).

Too often, we lionize players who are on the brink of retirement, and they are all called HOFers. And I hate the fact that the football HOF mandates a quota of players who must make it every year. But even so, not every star RB from this decade (Fred Taylor, Priest Holmes, Ricky Williams, heck, don't forget Terrell Davis) can make it.
Welcome Fossil...I'd take Terrell Davis and Priest (both done in by injury in their prime) and give them a Gale Sayers type pass before I give it to Tiki...

Im not so sure I would be willing to give Priest a pass, I mean he doesnt have the rings or playoff performances that TD had

I'd give it to TD first...but what is the difference between Priest and Gale Sayers really?...how many titles with Sayers?...impressive stats over a 5 year period and a few major injuires...that being the standard...I think Preist is on the bubble...and compared to Tiki and not the Hall of Fame in general...then yeah, I'd take him first.

Re: Tiki Barber Retirement Next Year

does anyone know how many rb's have atleast 10k rushing and 5k reciving cause thats what tiki will have after this year, and lefty i know turner has 6 yards a carry but jacobs does have 5.2 . Plus jacobs is more of a punishing back anyway so ill take jacobs in that equation

10K + 5K are Hall of Fame numbers...lack of title etc will make him a toss up...but 15K from scrimmage speaks volumes for his chances...
