Cool Coughlin: 2 pt conversion

You're down 42-24 in a game and you score a TD to make 42-30 with 3 minutes left, do you go for 2 or kick the extra point?

In my opinion, you kick the extra point and go down 11. This way you still need a field goal and a TD with the 2 pointer. But if you try for the 2 pointer and miss, then your down 42-30 and need two TD's.

True, either way you need a 2 pointer at some point but you might as well wait.

On Sunday, that happened to the Giants and Couglin went for 2 and didn't get it.

On his regular radio show yesterday here in NY, the hosts and Coughlin really went at it about that. Coughlin kept insisting he did the right thing. The radio hosts said he was wrong. Coughling then abruptly said "Next question."

Message to Tom: The radio hosts were right. It amazes me how many NFL coaches don't understand this stuff.

Does anyone think he did the right thing and I'm wrong?

Well, the Extra Point Chart that (I believe) every NFL coach has, suggests in that situation (down by 12), you go for the extra point.

I agree with the Chart, btw, because why worry about getting the 2 pointer now?

2 Points Are:
1. Tom Coughlin is totally wrong as a head coach for the NY Giants or any other NFL team.
2. The Giants will be lucky to go 6-10 judging by the effort and coaching they showed in the first 3 games.

lol

Were you so anti-Coughlin last year when the team won the NFC East? Of course they look bad now but they may come back against Washington and look great. Then they'll look like they can win the division again. People's opinions will change from week to week. The problem is the defense has shown no improvement in the three weeks of the season.

But I had no problem with the Coughlin hire. The team was too lax after Fassel and they needed a guy of Coughlin's ilk. How the team still has too many penalties, I'll never know though.

Re: Coughlin: 2 pt conversion

If Coughlin is so tough how come his teams are always near the top in penalties? Be it the Jaguars or Giants? Today's players just tune out "tough guys" because theyre too full of themselves. Thats why I think Jimmy Johnson was so good with all of those egos fromt the 90's Cowboys because the guy was like a psychologist! Youve got a team with Shockey, Burress, Arrington and an O-line that doesnt know how to stay still. I think you need Sigmund Freud to coach this team! Oh and dont think Shockey is the only one who hates Coughlin...he spoke out loud what everyone was thinking and continues to think. Even respected class acts like Tiki Barber wants the tough coach on the first bus out! Coughlin lost control of this team and no matter what he did last year this expensive defense couldnt stop a bad high school team. Fire him at the end of the year and get a coach who has a good system in place and knows how to handle today's players.

Even though Coughlin was the guy who corrected Barber's fumbling problem by changing the way he carries the ball. How quickly these players forget. Coughlin took this team to a division title last year. He's not going anywhere.

Then neither are the Giants.

You're putting way too much blame on Coughlin. I just disagree with that.

I do dislike the offensive & defensive coordinators though. But hey, Lewis is better than Johnnie Lynn right?
