Saints drag feet on Colston

WR Marques Colston was the steal of the draft in 2006, a 7th round pick who has become the team's go to receiver.
His rookie deal expires after the 2008 season and he will become a restricted free agent.
The team has had talks with Colston's agent but no progress towards a new deal has been made.
The Saints better move soon or another team might be willing to give up a 1st and 3rd pick to get him next March.

ProFootballTalk.com - SAINTS DRAGGING THEIR FEET ON COLSTON

Who would give up a 1st and 3rd round pick for him? Or better yet, who wouldnt???

this guy makes dirt money, and he is one of if not the best young wr in the game, and you dont want to pay him. Im with you Bette if he makes it to FA everyone that has the cap space will be trying to sign this guy, even if they dont have a need at WR

And if the Saints are going to look anything like they did before(was it in 06?) they need this guy on deck. He would most certainly be a welcome addition anywhere. Pay the guy Saints!

Colston has definately made a name for himself in the NFL. A seventh-round draft pick that was pretty good from the start. I say the Saints should just pay the man. He was getting paid dirt money even though, all the hard work he has been doing. Saints stop being cheap and pay him or lose them to another team.

Yeah it confuses me as too why the Saints haven't begun talks yet. Maybe they don't want Marques to be distracted? Maybe they're hoping that if they hold out he'll play even better to make sure he gets resigned? I don't know, but the Saints definitely need to make something happen.

I agree. The best way to keep him from getting distracted is to give him his new deal. Boom! -- Distraction gone.
