Re: Craig "Ironhead" Heyward dead

Sad to see the passing of former New Orleans Saints fullback Craig "Ironhead" Heyward on Saturday. Apparently, he had been battling a brain tumor for the past seven years, and finally succumbed yesterday. Heyward was never a superstar or anything, but man was he ever a load! It says in this article he gained 1,813 yards rushing in five seasons with the Saints.

Cool Re: Craig "Ironhead" Heyward dead

ATLANTA (AP) -- Former NFL fullback Craig "Ironhead" Heyward died Saturday after a 7 1/2 -year fight with a recurring brain tumor, his son's high school football coach said. He was 39.
Heyward spent 11 seasons in the NFL with New Orleans, Chicago, Atlanta, St. Louis and Indianapolis. The former University of Pittsburgh All-American rushed for a career-high 1,083 yards for the Falcons in 1995

How Ironic...a guy nicknamed Ironhead...dies of a head related tumor...that's just soooo wrong....I wonder if using his head as a battering ram had any effect....sad really...

Wow. This is the first I'm hearing of this. Awful. In his day, he was a great fantasy goal line runner.

Re: Craig "Ironhead" Heyward dead

I missed this one and its important too. Ironhead was one of my fav RBs in football when he played and for him to die of a brain tumor being 5 years older than me is sad indeed. I chose him in the 4th round of a fantasy draft one year and he did great if that doesnt sound too shallow. From what I read now a real good guy with a big heart as well. I wont forget #34 and im sure Saints fans and NFL fans wont either.
