If hes synonymous with that Rah! Rah! College # then its all the more reason for the adult NFL to take it away from the college brat who never played a down and is already dictating policy. I for one hope Bush fails now and turns into Ki-Jana Carter. Ill be rooting against him very hard! |
First off, I like the NFL but I love college football. I'd rather watch a college game than an NFL game any day of the week, because even though the talent isn't quite as good, it has far more tradition and far more heart. The coaches at Michigan always award the guy they consider to be their top WR the #1 jersey. It's an award, and honor. Is that bad for the game?
Okay, that said... I understand that there's no obligation for a team to give a draftee his old college number. Reggie Bush needs to prove himself whether he's wearing #5 or #35, so I still don't understand what the big deal is. The only way I can see jersey number having any bearing whatsoever on the game is in terms of ineligible receivers downfield.
I really can't buy into your argument that the "big boy" NFL needs to do this to show these "college brats" their place. The NFL has so many stupid, overly strict rules regarding what people can or can't do or can or can't wear that you sometimes get the feeling that they're intentionally trying to drain all of the life and personality out of the game. Their numbering system is too bland and robotic in nature for my tastes.
