New Orleans Saints Get Kicker Mare In Miami Dolphins Trade

The Saints have acquired kicker Olindo Mare in a trade with the Miami Dolphins for a sixth-round 2007 draft pick ( 199th over-all ).

Mare, entering his 11th season, is the Dolphins' all-time leader in several categories, including field goals ( 245 ), scoring ( 1,148 ) and field goal accuracy ( .809 ). He also has been the NFL's best at putting kickoffs out of reach over the last eight seasons. Since 1999, 126 of his kickoffs have gone for a touchback, including his career high with an league-leading 24 last season.

Good pickup. New Orleans had to keep two kickers last year because John Carney couldn't connect on the long FG attempts. That's a wasted roster spot, and Mare definitely has a stronger leg than Carney. And Mare's definitely got to be better than most guys they could've gotten with a sixth round pick I would think.

Plus Mare will probably be better than he was last year, just based on the fact that he's kicking indoors.
