Negotiations ongoing between La. and the New Orleans Saints
KATC, LA - Mar 19, 2007
BATON ROUGE, La. -- State negotiators are talking with the New Orleans Saints about ways to keep the NFL team in Louisiana beyond 2010. But they aren't talking about those negotiations publicly.
Gov. Kathleen Blanco's chief of staff Jimmy Clarke said negotiations have been "very productive," with a March 31 deadline looming. Clarke said both sides have agreed to a news blackout on what items are being discussed.
The two sides are now bound by a 10-year contract signed by then-Gov. Mike Foster in 2001 that gives the team $186.5 million in cash and other concessions to play in the Superdome.
