The Saints have recorded 12 sacks in only three games. This is a no-name defense that only sacked quarterbacks 25 in all of 2005.
Much of the defense received a face-lift during the offseason and in training camp. However, most of the damage has come from defenders who played on the forgettable ´05 defense.
Former first-round draft choice Will Smith (Ohio State) continues his maturation into a solid defensive end as he has gotten a sack in each of the Saints´ three games.
Defensive tackle Brian Young couldn´t lay a hand on a quarterback last season, but he has 3 1/2 sacks this season.
Any buy in to this?...as the Saints pass rush go, so do the Saints? Is that a bit too simplistic? Are they taking credit away from the ball control offense of Brees, McCallister, Horn, and Wonder Boy Reggie Bush? |
