Mammoth article in today's
Times-Picayune on the Hornets' future. The whole thing is really worth your time, but if you're busy, I'll save you the trouble: This team has no future in New Orleans.
Here are some especially bleak words from Gary Roberts--expert in sports law, former dean at Tulane, and longtime observer of the town's sports market:
"I hope I'm wrong," Robert said, but "I can't imagine that unless New Orleans has a dramatic economic revival, which is not currently in the process, that New Orleans can support two major professional sports franchises.
"It was a marginal two-team city before Hurricane Katrina. And now it's a devastated city that is much less capable than it was before the storm. It's wait-and-see."
