Jason Kidd trade rumors

According to the New York Daily News: "The Nets don't have any players Rod Thorn would label as untouchable... One local report yesterday suggested the Nets and Lakers are mulling a deal that would send Kidd to L.A. in exchange for a package of young players. But Kidd's name coming up in talks between the teams doesn't mean anything is imminent."

Kidd to L.A. for prospects? What do you guys think about that proposed deal?

Re: Jason Kidd trade rumors

This would be a no-brainer for New Jersey. They are going to win nothing with Kidd and have Marcus Williams developing nicely to take over the point.

I agree with you to an extent, legend. The only thing is that the East is so weak, when Jefferson comes back, the Nets have the talent to win the conference in the playoffs. So if Thorn thinks that's a possibility, Kidd isn't going anywhere.

Re: Jason Kidd trade rumors

Sam Smith of the Chicago Tribune seems to think Kidd will be dealt.

The Nets' Jason Kidd seems ready for a move and didn't sound like he'd be surprised to be traded.

"They have to do what's best for the franchise if the team is underachieving," Kidd said. "Business always gets in the way of basketball, so you just have to be happy with wherever you might end up. Always have your bag packed. I've enjoyed New Jersey."

The Lakers, flat-lining of late and in need of a point guard, have been mentioned, and Kidd seems amenable.

"I always thought about wearing No. 32 and taking his spot," he said of Magic Johnson. "I always wanted to start the fast break like he did and just enjoy the game like he did. He really enjoyed the game. With the history of the Lakers, you definitely can't be disappointed."
Mike & Mike were talking about it this morning too. They said that a Kobe-Kidd backcourt would be one of the best in NBA history. Agree?

That would be a great duo, but I am still holding out hope he can go to the CAVS.

Yeah...and traditionally the Lakers have had some good ones...Goodrich-West, Magic-Nixon...or Magic and whomever...

Cool Re: Jason Kidd trade rumors

According to Ken Berger of Newsday, a Kidd or Carter deal is unlikely:
Quote:
Jason Kidd was still a Net yesterday, and two people familiar with the team's trade discussions said the All-Star point guard appears likely to remain in New Jersey beyond tomorrow's NBA trade deadline

The Nets have had "a lot of discussions" with the Lakers about Kidd, one of the people said, but team president Rod Thorn hasn't been presented with an enticing deal..

Re: Jason Kidd trade rumors

Count me as one of the few who is not thrilled with the prospects of Kobe-Kidd backcourt in Los Angeles. It isn't a terrible fit, but it wouldn't make them one of the best backcourts in NBA History either. A team would be crazy to turn down an opportunity to acquire a player like Kidd, but he is far from a perfect fit in the triangle offense. Historically, Phil Jackson loves to have his go-to-guy be the initiator and surround him with wingers that can shoot. Kidd isn't exactly a spot-up shooter. If you put him as the initiator in the triangle, you are relegating Kobe to play off-ball more, which he can certainly do, but is less effective doing so.

Would it make the Lakers a better team? Yes. Would it make the Lakers an upper echelon team? No.

I agree that Kidd is not a fit for the Lakers. He has to go to a team that needs help in the backcourt. Since nobody else on the Lakers ever touches the ball, that set up wouldn't work.

Re: Jason Kidd trade rumors

3pm as come and gone, and Kidd is still a Net. Think Wade's injury had anything to do with this?

Re: Jason Kidd trade rumors

Kidd is by far one of the most-overrated players in NBA history.

Re: Jason Kidd trade rumors

I would agree. I never quite cared for him, but would definitely accept him in Los Angeles.

Unfortunately, things did not work out.

Question Re: Jason Kidd trade rumors

The NETS were willing to get rid of Kid's HIGH salary. The problem is that the Lakers were NOT willing to give up LaMar Odom or Andrew Bynum, the 19 year old sensation, which is what it would take to make the trade happen. Kidd is 34 years old and likely won't last many more years.... Still, a slim possibility exists that it could still happen next year if the NETS do not advance in the playoffs. The nets could win the East this year.

Using Kidd in the Laker lineup, at crucial points during close games could have its benefits.. but not at his salary... NO WAY!
