Nets cut Jay Williams

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) -- Jay Williams' quest to return to the NBA some three years after a horrible motorcycle accident was put on hold Sunday when the New Jersey Nets waived the point guard less than two weeks before the start of the season.
"It's heartbreaking doing it regardless, and then to do it with a guy like him," Nets coach Lawrence Frank said. "The one thing to think about with him is, let's say he didn't get injured, anyone who takes three, 3 1/2 years off, he just needs an opportunity to play.

Any team out there where Jay Williams will be a fit?...Can the guy get back to the player he once was?

I think he needs to play in the developmental league, work himself into shape and knock the rust off his skills. Then he'd be a great mid-season signing for some playoff contender. Frank's 100% right - he just needs a chance to play.

Re: Nets cut Jay Williams

I have always loved the game-play style of Jay Williams back since he was with Duke. I remember the day I found out that he had been in a motorcycle accident and I was in total shock. Surprised that he would be able to make a comeback, I started to raise my hopes on his career but it looks as if they shot down to where they started as soon as the Nets marked an X on his name.

i absolutely hate duke but i don't like this decision, he is a great player and has a really high IQ, i think they should have kept him and let him come back strong
