He fought an alcoholism problem in 1997/98 and he took a leave from the Devils back then.
he was caught drinking and driving in May and next month (on Aug 7) will face the charges because of that.
back in the 90s he said he was a binge drinker.
They love him in Jersey - sad that he seemed to have fought it and now in retirement, at 42, finds himself back in same mess again. I remember at an awards show, watching the bug guy cry as he accepted an award and thanking his teammates for all the support they gave him.

Yeah. You tend to not hear much about drugs in hockey, it's usually about booze.

After his DWI arrest went public last week, the former Devil, who has a history of alcohol abuse, did not run and hide. Not only did he accept responsibility for his actions, he went out of his way to spread the word. On Thursday, Daneyko called WFAN's Joe Benigno, who pressed him with blunt questions about the bust, which went down in May. "I made a mistake," Daneyko said. "Maybe I was feeling pressure (from various business interests) and I spread myself too thin. That's no excuse though. I'm human."

That's great, he spoke so openly and honestly, and sounded regretful, but I have to say - people who drink and drive really piss me off.
