It is an interesting parade of past Montreal coaches/players on the Devils roster past and present.
Julien was fired by montreal as head coach in Jan 2006. past coaches include jacques Lamaire and Pat burns. And lamoriello had replaced star canadien Robinson behind the bench this past season.
I always wondered what happened to my favourite fired Montreal coach Alain Vigneault - turns out he's a front runner for the Canucks coaching job (he coached the AHL Manitoba Moose this past season).

Interesting stat -- each of the 3 previous ex-Montreal guys they've hired to coach have gone on to lead the Devils to a Stanley Cup. We'll have to see if the same holds true for Claude Julien.

I never understood why Julien was fired in the first place. His record was pretty good. Anyone know?

cbc.ca site states this when Julien was fired;
The Canadiens began the season on a tear with 12 wins in their first 16 games, but the team has struggled since Nov. 10 with just seven victories in 25 games.
That poor form has seen the club drop to fourth place in the Northeast Division and 10th in the Eastern Conference, three points back of Tampa Bay for the eighth and final playoff spot in the East.


But then the page goes on to say how Julien led the Habs to the 2nd round of the playoffs in 03/04, and his record is 72-62-10-5.
Guess they wanted to shake it up, and gainey stepped in and brought in Carbonneau.
