Cool Ken Daneyko's jersey retired

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) -- The New Jersey Devils will retire former defenseman Ken Daneyko's No. 3 jersey Friday night before their game against the Bruins.
Daneyko, who will turn 42 next month, played 20 seasons and 1,283 games with the Devils, retiring at the end of the 2003 season. He spent his entire career with New Jersey, finishing with 36 goals, 142 assists and more than 2,500 penalty minutes.

Okay, so we are now retiring jersey's of players that average less than 10 points a season?...am I wrong here?...Is this worthy of a retirement?...I mean 20 seasons 1,283 games and all...are we just honoring a long career instead of a stellar one?

Re: Ken Daneyko's jersey retired

I think it has less to do with numbers and more to do with this:

Quote:
He's one of only five players to have been a part of all three Devils Stanley Cup championship teams -- 1995, 2000 and 2003. The others are Martin Brodeur, Scott Stevens, Scott Niedermayer and Sergei Brylin. The Devils retired Steven's No. 4 last month, the first time the franchise has retired a number.

And I bet you every single one of those guys ultimately get their numbers retired by the Devils.

Yeah...but lets take the Yankees...they didn't retire everyones number that played in three champioship teams...they have some sort of standard besides the rings...

If I had a nickle for every time I heard, "Have another beer, Kenny," at a Flyers/Devils game, I'd be a wealthy woman.

Okay, so my simplistic mind can grasp this...you are against the jersey retirement then?...remember to use small words and speak slowly, so I can get it this time...

Re: Ken Daneyko's jersey retired

I wasn't actually taking a stand one way or another. I'm not a Devils fan - I don't care what they do. I was just remembering some of the fun I had watching Daneyko play against the Flyers.
