Dying Dynasty?

After coming of a detrimental off season, the New England Patriots chances for getting ring number 5 any time soon may be slim.
The biggest loss was CB Asante Samuel. They also lost CB#3 Randall Gay, making the secondary weaker.
The Pats defense isnt getting any younger, and at linebacker the Pats look like they are running a retirement home except for the rookie Jerod Mayo.
It isnt the youngest offensive group either. Tom Brady and Randy Moss are both in their 30's and Moss will especially soon feel the effects. The OL is aging too.
The Pats wont be a bad team. They will win the AFC east but are an aging team facing a dramatic shift in power. Teams like the Jaguars, Titans, Browns and Bills are on the rise.
The Pats and the Colts may soon find themselves struggling to compete.

I think the attitude in this maybe a little exaggerated.
How serious do you think the aging factor is?

Re: Dying Dynasty?

Well, I don't think it will hurt them this year, but the clock is ticking. Right now, they'd best focus less on age and more on finding some DBs!

Re: Dying Dynasty?

Depends on what degrees of "hurt" you are considering. No doubt this will not be an 18-1 season. The mind and the body are two different entities and seldom work together. The more they age the more money becomes the deciding factor on when to quit. Until the season actually starts I won't bet on anything. For any team that is a leader there is always that 3-5 year time frame where they are invincible and the rebuilding process takes a back seat. When age and loss of key players occurs they are left empty handed. New England isn't at that point but it could easily happen. We can only hope that Tony and Jessica are still an item this year. She's one of our secret weapons.

I agree they are done in the way they performed last year. I will say that 12-4 should be their minimum.

seems kind of pathetic if she is one of your weapons.
Now our weapons are Tony, Witten, TO, Ware, Newman, Davis, Canty, Barber, Garrett, Jerry's pocketbook, Tank, oh gee the list goes on and on. I am sure you get the idea.

Re: Dying Dynasty?

I think there defense will suffer big time. I mean they were 2 of the best CB's in the AFC, and the jets will eventually pass them up, maybe not this year, but soon.

Re: Dying Dynasty?

The Pats still have Tom Brady and Bill Belichick, they are far from dying, they will be in the hunt for another Super Bowl.

I think the quest will still be there but the road to it won't be as smooth. Aging players and lost players will make it a more difficult journey.

But they have the easiest schedule in the NFL, they won't be unbeaten by any stretch the imagination, but they are still an elite team.

They didn't make the other teams in the AFC weak. They can only play what is presented to them.

If any team in the AFC is on the decline it's the Colts, Wayne and Harrison aren't getting any younger and Dwight Freeny's knee is a big question. The Pats, Chargers, and maybe the Jags are the only elite teams in the AFC.

Pats and Colts are still elite until the season starts.
Jags and Titans are up and coming teams. Not there yet, but coming.
Chargers may make the elite list this year.

Re: Dying Dynasty?

I would trade Chicago's players with the Pat's players in a heart beat. The older they are the smarter they are. "Brady and Moss are in their 30s" Yeah, but they are still Tom freakin Brady, and Randy Moss. So as they age they will only hook up for 100 touchdowns this season. Only thing I see standing in the Pat's way of another Super bowl is the coach.
