| Belichick taping since 2000 Roger Goodell has reportedly told Senator Arlen Specter that there is confirmed evidence that Patriots coach Bill Belichick has been illegally taping defensive signals since 2000. According to the Associated Press, "Specter said Goodell gave him that information during the 1-hour, 40-minute meeting, which was requested by Specter so the commissioner could explain his reasons for destroying the Spygate tapes and notes." It goes on to say that Belichick believed the taping was legal. So, what now? Belichick has been taping since 2000, Goodell tells Specter - NFL - Yahoo! Sports

Re: Belichick taping since 2000 My one question is this. Why did they suddenly punish them for one incident? Seems the NFL either wasn't honest with us, and knew all along, or this punishment was for all the incidents since 2000. That seems the more likely scenario. So why not just tell us to begin with?

| Re: Belichick taping since 2000 This is as tiresome as Congress and Clemens... The Pats got punished...anyone going forward is going to get punished...let it go...and move on. What is it about us as a society that wants to dig up every last ounce of dirt, display it in public, debate it for decades, and destroy every major league sport along the way? It's over...let go...move on... And Specter is the last one that should be leading anything, unless I am wrong he was part of the JFK Warren investigation...and that was one blundered investigation...so dude, just cause you blew one back in the day, doesn't mean you go looking for the next conspiracy theory.

Re: Belichick taping since 2000 Nope. I don't think that is needed. But don't you think it is relevent how much he taped? A lot of folks seem to say it was just once, now it seems it may have been going on for years. I think that is kind of an important detail. But I guess the truth is too much to ask, we should just let it go.

Re: Belichick taping since 2000 Even though I am a Pat's fan, if there is indisputable proof that he has been cheating for this length of time then YES I think much more than a financial penalty. My only concern is that if he were to be banned from football then they need to be very, very consistent with every instance of proven cheating.

Re: Belichick taping since 2000 well it cant be immediately overlooked but roger goodell seems to be quite a shady character. and i wouldnt exactly blame the patriots players. more the coaching staff

Re: Belichick taping since 2000 Oh I don't pin it on any of the players. If it did occur it would have been a management issue. I can't imagine why Goodell would be involved in lies except if he is trusting someone who is shady. Pretty dumb move on his part if he is lying.

Re: Belichick taping since 2000 think about this ...... this season the NFL started the rule about taping on the side-lines ...... normally rules are put in place to correct a behavior .... rarely are they put in place pro-actively ..... if that is the case .. then this rule was put in place to stop taping that has been going on ........ all that said, does anyone believe that the Pats were the sole team responsible for needing this rule ? this spygate situation is becoming more and more like steroids in MLB to me ..... Bonds has been one of the top 5 players of the last 30 years or so .. then he was "caught" and the was an audible gasp and he has been shunned ... now it comes out that there have been dozens of others also doing steroids .. and imo Bonds doesnt look as bad ... he is now one of a crowd ..... honestly that is how i see this spygate going ...... the Pats are the Bonds of the NFL .. i find it crazy that anyone would believe that over the past decade or so that the Pats have been the only ones doing this

Re: Belichick taping since 2000 I may have made that very same statement once or twice or .....

Re: Belichick taping since 2000 So, like I asked in a thread that I started, doesn't it matter that the Baseball players or NFL teams are cheating??? Does it matter if it is rampant, and that everyone is doing it? Wrong is wrong. Barry Bonds is just as guilty whether he is alone or if there are 100 players doing it, just like any team is guilty of cheating that is taping. It's not a Pats thing, it's a cheating thing. Pats fans, stop taking offense to it. If it was Dallas, I wouldn't defend them! The NFL didn't fine them and the coach a combined 750,000 just for run.
