| Lasting depression after Pat's loss could signify deeper issue It's been almost a week since the Super Bowl, and many zealous Patriots fans are still feeling the sting of defeat, a less common feeling in this area after championships by their pigskin and hardball teams. It's normal to feel disappointment after a big loss in a professional sport, area counselors say. But it may be irrational, even unhealthy, to hold onto this feeling for too long an"I think that most people will go through a process of healing within a few days, but chronic or clinical depression should not be the result of a team loss. We are all sad and blue and have noticeable low energy. Even I felt like 'kicking cans' (Sunday). Now we can and should re-direct our thoughts, Red Sox season is almost here," Dolberg Rowe said. For male fans, especially, the Patriots losing to the Giants was a blow to their egos. Dolberg Rowe says that sense of close identification with a professional sports team goes to the heart of the male concept. "Men in our world today have been separated from their roots of 'men being men' and 'doing the guy thing,' being testosteroids, if you will, like warriors, like military men. The competitive side of men craves the win," Dolberg Rowe said. Jill Solomon, a clinical social worker and therapist in Brockton, said the results of the Super Bowl was "an unbelievable stunning upset that had its effect on an entire state." She said dejected Patriots fans should indulge in the "best medicine around" - talk. "All will move on when they have said all they need to say about the loss. And training camp is just five months away, of course," Solomon said. Lasting depression after the Patriots' loss could signify deeper issue - Waltham, MA - The Daily News Tribune I am being serious here with this article folks. If you are still feeling down about the loss, then maybe there is something else going on. Dont try to pretend that the game is all that it is about.

I can agree with that. I got what I wanted out of the day. A good game. Being a fan of neither team, it was a good match up, but it is done. On to the spring sports, and hockey and Basketball playoffs! The NCAA tourney, Racing, and of course, pitchers and catchers! I can almost smell the spring blooming! |

| Re: Lasting depression after Pat's loss could signify deeper issue Here, here. It's a game from my perspective. Kids play the same game in high school. Let it go and watch some basketball right now and soon enough you'll be watching the Red Sox take on the world again. In the midst of all that there is the Stanley Cup and of course NASCAR. Feb 17 starts the points racing. For the less avid fan this will be the 50th running of the Daytona 500. Missing this race is like not watching the final episode of M.A.S.H.
