No, sorry, be he made a bee-line right for midfield as soon as he thought the game was over. No ref "forced" him to shake Coughlin's hand.

Hate the guy if you want (plenty of people do), but don't go making up fallacies about the man.

Re: Belichick Should Have Stayed on the Field

I find it extremely interesting how people who dislike Belichick see things that didn't really happen. I'll be the first to agree that he has the personality of a deceased mule but he went to midfield and shook hands with Coughlin. My bet is he thought the clock was at zero. Did any time get reset on the clock or was it initially stopped at the 1 second mark ??

Diss the guy all you want but do it with facts.

Oh my goodness, why do you people still stick up for this guy? seriously, he ran immediatley on the field after the 4th down play was done, he knew there was still time for another play he just didnt want to wait it out. This is the freaking super bowl, stay out there and give respect to the team who won. Like one writer said "I wasnt aware that the league had given him authority to decide when games end." He has no class and hes a cheater, a disgrace to the team and league.

Re: Belichick Should Have Stayed on the Field

Well now, there's a whole seperate issue... such as, why in the world don't NFL referees have the authority to just run off the clock if the losing team seems ready to concede defeat? What's the point of making everyone stop celebrating, then line up for one more meaningless play, then be expected to do everything all over again. Regardless of anyone's opinions about Belichick, you've got to admit, that's pretty stupid.

Whether you believe its stupid or not, thats how it is. What matters is being professional about it and giving the other team respect even though your mad, hurting or embaressed.

I guess I just view it differently. If you cheat once does that forever make you a cheater ??? If so then life and sports are full of cheaters and we should hate these people at all costs ????

I think there are few that will argue that what he did wasn't totally wrong. I don't disagree that he should have remained on the field but what does leaving the field early (wrongfully so) have to do with him being a cheater. If he has a flat tire on his car is it because he is a cheater ?? If the mens room is out of toilet paper is it because he is a cheater ??? If you fall and break an arm is it because Belichick is a cheater ??? If you think those examples sound far fetched, imagine how some view leaving the field early and how it connects to being a cheater ??? No connection what so ever. If you want to chastise him for leaving early ... do it but don't connect the two. Ford motor Company doesn't make Chevy's

Re: Belichick Should Have Stayed on the Field

Unless I am wrong the officials put one second back on the clock after Belichick made his way toward midfield followed by a huge crowd. He had to have a range of emotions from rage to embarrassment. He should have stayed on the field to keep his team together but it is not the end of the world.

Both teams earned their right to play for the Chanpionship and the Giants won. He should have just had some of that huble pie everyone said he kept serving up.

No... if in fact he was bein classless. If he didn't realize there was time back on the clock.... I might cut him some slack. If he was just bein classless cause he lost the bowl, I won't cut him slack. There have been many other coaches who were favorites in the bowl, and lost it, but still had the class to remain on the field til it was over.

YES !!!! that is the way I thought it happened but didn't want to make the call unless someone else also thought it was that way. He still should have stayed but I think this casts a different light on the initial leaving the field and connecting with Coughlin.

Thanks for seeing what I thought I saw Tuck.
