Patriots wide receiver Randy Moss broke the all-time single-season receiving touchdowns record of Jerry Rice on Saturday, and after the game, Moss told reporters this:

"I don't think me breaking Jerry Rice's record is special," Moss said. "I think shutting you guys up is what made it special, all the negativity, all my critics."

Rice knows a thing or two about breaking records, and when he broke the records of the great receivers who came before him, he always showed respect for those receivers. So how did Rice feel about Moss saying breaking his record wasn't special? On a radio interview Wednesday, Rice said, "I's almost like a little slap in the face, but that's typical of Randy Moss."

My guess is that the emphasis was "ME".

Moss is classless, Jerry Rice is considered the Best Wide Reciever ever and Randy Moss beat his record and says it no big deal? gimme a break, and btw Jerry did it in 12 games (during the strike season). It took randy moss 16, so moss should at the very least recognize that.

Moss doesnt need to recognize jack ..... Rice is an over-hyped hack that stuck around way too long to pad his stats and feed his ego

why cant retired athletes just shut their yaps and go on with their lives

Hey thats fine if you want to stick up for you classless reciever, either way it still remains Rice did it in 12 games when Moss needed 16..Rice is still the better reciever..

and imo it wasnt disrespect to Rice in any way ... he clearly made it plain he was much more interested in the teams success then his own personal achievement

Now just where did Moss say that he was a better or the best WR ????? I didn't see that anywhere other than here. The fact that Rice did it in 12 games versus Randy's 16 games may well be recorded somewhere but just like in the stats of any other sport it is the record itself that is generally recorded ... not how long it took to achieve it.

I think you all are reading far to much into the statement. Thank you media for making a mountain out of a mole hill ..... as usual.

Because this is the era of the highlight, and the arrogance. Now i was never a big Ride fan either, but you can't deny his greatness. He did hang around about two years too long, but so did Emmit Smith, and quite a few other great players.

I think they earned that right.

Randy Moss is a great received, but like many of today's athletes, a crap person.

I think you are right, it really isn't a shot at Rice. I didn't catch all this post before commenting. I guess my dislke for folks like him got the better of me!

Moss referred to all the negativity surrounding his career. Apparently the media made him a dope fiend, told him to take plays off, moon the crowd in Green Bay, and get into a tussle with a meter-maid! Or perhaps it was Jerry Rice that orchestrated all those things. Moss, once out of football, will still be in the news, as he makes one police report after another, unless Rice teaches him how to dance.
