ok ...... i will give you credit for Crennel as a possible candidate

but that's as far as i go

Wade Phillips had more pro-bowlers then Belichick did for crying out loud ..... and Del Rio had the best RB duo in the league and a QB that didnt throw an INT for like the first 10 games .. that isnt coaching

NO !!!!! Do you think in 1939 that Joseph Stalin should have been the man of the year as proclaimed by Time magazine and how about the Ayatullah Khomeini in 1979 ???????

Re: Bill Belichick Wins NFL Coach of Year

I think there is no way he wasn't going to get this award. He led his team to a perfect season. He didn't play the games, but he is the one that came up with the game plans for each game they won. Do you think they would have won that many games if he just told his team "go out and play". Crennel any other year should have one the award, but he came up against something that hasn't been done before.

And I will say it again. They did not cheat!!!.

Re: Bill Belichick Wins NFL Coach of Year

How many of you believe that the communications that the QB receives is NOT monitored by the opposing team ????? Would that be "cheating" ? How many camera's are in the stadium for both teams ??? How many of those large "EAR" antenna's listen to privileged communication ???

Exactly. How much game footage is watched with the opposing side edited out.....none. They can watch them give signs on that, and it is allowed to be viewed. Why do coaches hide their lips when they are calling plays. The other team cannot hear him. They know their are lip readers out there. There is rampant "so-called" cheating. New England are just the unfortunate ones that brought it to light.

yea its too bad the NFL doesnt agree with you..they dont fine coaches and take their 1st round pick for the hell of it..doesnt matter how perfect their season is, they were cheaters..its sad they are honoring him as the best coach of the year when so many others were far deserving..

I think they should of banned Belichick from the NFL. He cheated, if everybody does it, then get rid of everybody. My vote would be for Wade Phillips, any body that can keep TO out of trouble for a perfect 16 game season deserves it.

Sad maybe, but what is the criteria used for the selection ?? Can you answer that ?? What was the criteria used when Adolph Hitler was selected as "Man of The Year" in 1938 by Time Magazine ??? How many of you out here are happy that the NFL took away a draft pick but complain that the refs/NFL made "BS" calls during the game to "GIVE" them the perfect record ??? You can't have it both ways.

I can understand not everyone being happy with the choice, but really .... what is the big deal. Next year it'll be someone else and at that point you may have to defend that winner, or maybe you've defended one in the past.

I would again ask what is the criteria for being chosen ???

Re: Bill Belichick Wins NFL Coach of Year

LSC, you're comparing Apples and Oranges here.

AP Coach of the Year = Guy who did the best job coaching, presumably doing the most with the least amount of talent.

Time Magazine's Man of the Year = The most important newsmaker, or the person who changed the world the most, in any given year.

There is no correlation between the two awards whatsoever.

Re: Bill Belichick Wins NFL Coach of Year

What will you say if Belichick says something like this:

"I'm going to put those things behind me," he said. "They can only make a man stronger, wiser. For me, that's what it's done. I'll be a better teammate, a better person, a better man in life. I'm looking forward to this opportunity. I couldn't be more excited to be here."

This was T.O.'s after signing with Dallas. So if Bill behaves next year ,as he did the rest of this year, everyone will be OK with him ? His past will no longer be an issue ???

They same argument came up last year with Shawne Merriman, did it not?

I didn't like the idea of honoring someone who broke the NFL rules then, and I don't like it now.

Yes and no .. not everyone is happy with the choice and that is what this discussion is about. Accordingly, those that made the choice felt, it was the correct choice.

For me personally .... I don't care. Belichick isn't the one who blocked, intercepted, received or threw the football. He guided but didn't actually do any of the physical work. Sort of like corporate America.

Re: Bill Belichick Wins NFL Coach of Year

But the NFL Coach of the Year award isn't meant to spark deep, meaningful philosophical discussion like the Time award is. All it's supposed to do is honor the guy who did the best job coaching his football team in a given year. For my money, that was without a doubt Romeo Crennel this year. And the worst part is, I don't think Crennel got a single stinkin' vote from the AP.

Re: Bill Belichick Wins NFL Coach of Year

I'm not really disagreeing with you. After a 4-12 season to come back with a 10-6 season shows there is something there. An understatement at best. The choice was made by the media. That alone should say a lot. Who knows why they chose who they chose. I still feel that it is a frivolous award. He did in fact guide the team but did nothing. Had the "cheating" scandal never happened there might be a whole lot less discussion about him.

Cool Re: Bill Belichick Wins NFL Coach of Year

I'm sorry - that's a terrible choice - not because he was cheating but because many expected the Patriots to win the Super Bowl, anyway.

Mike McCarthy should have won. Everybody thought the Packers would be terrible. And how isn't Romeo Crennel 2nd in the voting?
